WWTBAM Bored

Hi everyone,

I'm new here thanks to (I think) Frogman posting the link on another board. I received a postcard encouraging me to try out for famous names week. I never would have thought to try out for WWTBAM in a million years but now that I got the postcard I'm doing it. I don't think I've slept since making the decision. I'm a nervous wreck, but these boards have been very helpful. I am hoping there won't be that many people with famous names for them to choose from

My question: Everyone says studying the old transcripts is a great way to prepare for the test. Do they actually pull old questions for the audition test or is studying the old transcripts just a good way to get your brain in gear?

They use actual questions from the show on the test.

I think you'll find that, at least in past years, the audition test have been composed primarily of questions from the transcripts. The problem is, sometimes they use last week's transcripts and sometimes they use them from years ago, so, like that Gumpish box o' chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. But unlike some other game shows, you CAN study for the test, and the best way is to go over transcripts from the show.

What would make the outrage really hilarious is if Marley's real name is, in fact, John Wayne, and he himself never received a postcard urging him to try out.

Well, here goes.

You surely won't agree with the fact that they must have gone through the public directories and invited anyone/everyone with a celebrity name. However, don't fault them too much. I only received the card a couple days ago and the date is 8/5. I am thinking that maybe they didn't get a tremendous response to the "famous names" call for applications and had to enact a plan B. I could be wrong, but for most people receiving a cold solicitation, 3 weeks is not much notice.

I am only responding to the postcard because a good friend of mine was also on the show and won $64K before the format change. He talks about what a great experience it was all the time and when I showed him the postcard he really encouraged me to go for it.

Ok. I'm outraged. They didn't call me. I mean I was on America's Got Talent. Just because I didn't have any shouldn't discourage them from picking me.

There are a number of bored denizens who haven't been in the hot seat, and are envious of your postcard, but they always want to see good contestants on the show. So, feel free to ask questions and gather advice, because most of the people here like to help worthy candidates, and I don't think any of them will try to dig any potholes in your road.

Do you mind telling us if you live in the NYC area?

IIRC, what juliea got was not a card but rather an invitation to come for an audition. She's not assured of getting on the show; TPTB were just trying to get more "famous name" people to try out.

TPTB, rather than admit that this particular theme week idea wasn't working and putting the applicants to date into the regular pool of contestants (as they did with some of the College Week interviewees), decided to seek out by whatever means people with famous names and directly solicit their participation. Just face up to the fact that it wasn't such a good idea after all, folks, and move on. Don't try to force it.

This is not personal, juliea344, and I hope you manage to get through the test and the interview and then on the show. It just seems to me like TPTB goofed, probably by not realizing how limited the "famous names" pool really is, but refuses to give up the idea.
