Rescued!

Missy and I were sitting by the pool when we saw a baby bird fall out of his nest. It landed in the grass and appeared to stun it for a minute. It started moving and chirping.
I got on the internet to see what to do, as the nest was out of our reach even with a 20 ft ladder. We caught Allen as he was on his way out the door. He tried to reach the nest, but the nest was out too far from where we could set up the ladder.
I got a plaster cool whip container, lined it with a dry paper towel, put some twigs and clippings from my lora petalum and we we able to wedge it in
the slats on the pergola within about a foot of the original nest.
I watched and the mother has shown up, so we're hoping it will be OK.

Where's your bud, ES when you need him.

ES would have been a big help just like Kitty would have had the little baby for dinner!!

Good job!! And it is NOT true that if you touch a baby bird or an egg that the mama will abandon it, as many believe. They don't really have a sense of smell.

No, I was pondering that if that was me in that pool, how long Kay would laugh and let me drown to death before she'd go get the camera and record something for America's Funniest Videos....

I am quite compassionate. If you will recall, ES, a silly little chipmunk has been rescued from the pool and now I've saved a little squirrel.
You're safe from AFV since I don't have a video camera.

Ever think of hiring a lifeguard for that pool. It seems to be a small animal deathtrap....

Just to set the record straight, the baby bird was no where near the pool.
The bird nest is in the middle of my Lady Banks Rose that grows up and over the pergola. I just happened to be close enough to see it when the baby fell. I could have left the baby for Kitty's mid afternoon snack.
The chipmunk was just plain stoopid....sorry, but that's the way I see it! Maybe ES could hold a pool safety class for squirrels & chipmunks.
I found this blog entry about squirrels ES might be interested in reading. Although it could give ES nightmares!

I am outraged, shocked, and thoroughly appalled that someone would not only encourage, but boast about such cruelty! I am sure my dear companion Annie would not condone the behavior of her canine cousin here, and I hope my friends at the NSAS have already sent their task force out to this evil chick's house to straighten her moral values out! Squirrelmama would have a heart attack if she read about this tragedy....
And how could someone with the following subheader on their blog be so hateful towards us cute and gentle squirrels?
Duct Tape is a Girl's Best Friend
I just lost all that corn I had for breakfast.....
