Oldies question

The Deon Jackson thread the other day - and the responses about songs people never heard, like Cool Jerk - got me thinking about regional differentiations in radio.

Philadelphia has always been blessed with local smaller stations not bound to Top 40 format -- or certain DJ allowances to play stuff outside the standard format.

Here are some songs that are seminal to my youth/teenage years, either from the radio or dances. To this day, local longtime DJs still have dances - some a set weekly dance on the same day - and play from this song list.

So, BBs of a certain age, have you heard of these?

Amazon & Coyotes-The Dream Lovers
This Old Heart of Mine-The Isley Brothers
I've Got a Feeling-The Four Tops
Shake a Tail Feather-James & Bobby Purify
Hold Back the Night-The Trampps
What Shall I Do-Frankie & the Classicals
Trickle Trickle-The Videos
Bila-The Versatones
Oowee Baby – The Ivytones
Dream Girl-Norman Fox & Rob Roys
I'm Sorry Pillow-Lee Andrews & Hearts
If You Love Me-Bluenotes
My Hero-Bluebelles
Cry Like I Cried-Harptones
Those Oldies But Goodies-Little Caesar & the Romans
Tonite Tonite-The Mellow Kings
It's All in the Game-Tommy Edwards
Try the Impossible-Lee Andrews & the Hearts
This Magic Moment-The Drifters
Gloria-The Cadillacs
Dedicated to the One I Love-The Shirelles
You Were Mine-The FireFlies
Till-The Angels
Stardust-Billy Ward & the Dominoes
Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me-Mel Carter
To Be Loved-Jackie Wilson
Unchained Melody-Al Hibbler
A Thousand Miles Away-Heartbeats

I am familiar with only a few of these.

Rainy Day Bells is fun even it is probably supposed to be sad.

This Magic Moment and everything by The Drifters gets a lot of play here on the Sunday night show. Shagging is big at Myrtle Beach, or was when I was a kid.

I first heard This Old Heart of Mine by Ronald Isley and Rod Stewart, and it's excellent. The original is also fun but I like the one I heard first, which happens to be the remake.

One of my favorites from that era is Jay and the Americans - Cara Mia. I also like most of the Gamble and Huff genre.

I must not be really old, because I think of This Magic Moment as Jay and the Americans and Dedicated to the One I Love as The Mamas and the Papas.

That still makes me pretty old, though. Ha!

I probably have, but I forgot.
