WWTBAM Bored

So, yesterday my son, Daniel tied the know with my new daughter-in-law, Raquel - in a beautiful ceremony and a great reception. It was a fantastic wedding, best I ever attended (even topped my own - and my wife, Leslie, thought so as well). Considering they in essence planned the whole affair with little to no real input from us and they were able to stay calm, cool and collective - speaks volumes of them - I'm sure they will have a long and happy life together.

And to Marley's comment of me being on the bored yesterday - well, the wedding wasn't until the late afternoon - I usually keep my computer connected with a browser open to the bored, and what can I say, you folks are just too irresistible!

If I've guessed correctly, I also know who to watch for among the early contestants for next season.

The operative term here: SON'S wedding. It also helps if the child involved has already left the nest. Not my situation in both cases. Don't know if the latter was the case for frogman.

Finally looked at the photos. Very nice. I assume that's a family chuppah at the end. I like the idea and the signatures. A bit more personal than those embossed yarmulkes.

Yes, that is the chuppah - it is from my wife's side - we married under it which is so nice that my son could be married under it as well. Everyone on my wife side was married under it - it was recently in Isreal where my wife's 1st cousins son was married under it as well. It is really special family tradition - and everyone who gets married under it gets their name on it.

Thanks for sharing the photos. It is always nice to finally put a "face" to a BB's bored name.

Here are some dumb questions and hope you do not mind me asking.

At what age or at what time would your son not wear the hat ( I assume hat is not the correct word) and the longer beard? I noticed you do not wear the hat or long beard.

Same question on the "coat" (again prolly not the correct word).

Even tho my youngest daughter's best friend through grade school and high school was Jewish, I still know very little about the religion/customs. It is not like we have a whole lot of Jewish families here--like maybe 3 or 4. The family has since moved to AZ. For many years my wife would make them challah bread for a couple of their holidays.

The Bat Mitzvah for Erin was one wonderful event. It was very gracious of them to include us.

Glad to hear the day went well. I hadn't heard of Wild Rose Hall, but it looks like a nice place. The former owner of Mother Egan's in Austin sold out and built a new wedding reception hall in south Austin called Waterford Place.

I just saw this post on the Jeopardy board. Kind of an odd coincidence. Maybe you dodged a bullet. Hope your good luck continues.

I'm sorry to hear that Jay passed on. Oddly enough, back in the mid-80's when I was in grad school studing A.I. he used to post on the Arpanet and since some of his work in philosophy/cognitive psychology had some relevence to what I was working on - so we communicated a bit back then. In addition, during a presentation from a guest professer to the Comp. Sci. dept. (I can't remember who gave the talk) he used Jay Rosenberg's name (not me) for all his theoritical examples and everyone snickered - but I was one of the few who actully knew a bit about the Jay Rosenberg he was referring to. I, of course, remember watching his J! apperences as well and I sometimes entertained the thought that maybe I didn't get picked for J! was that they felt one Jay Rosenberg was enough and they used up the name quota.

Anyway, since that brief flurry of interactions / intersections with him in the 80's, his name never crossed my path since then - it saddens me to hear that he died - although I never met him in person - he seemed like a wonderful person.
