A possum crapped in my living room last night

To round out a lousy day, late last night i hear some clinking among the cat food bowls - odd. Go to check and see an enormous rat (possum) eating out of the bowls. Took me about about an hour, 1 broom, 1 mop, and a hand-vac (for sound effects) to get him out. Meanwhile, what I thought were a bunch of dirty dust bunnies in the corner dropped from the broom, to my horror turned out to be stinky blops of crap- i literally scared the shit out of him. It wasn't pretty. :(

Sorry to hear about your visitor. That's what you get for living in the wilds of the valley.

If I had been there, I would have helped.

I would have started by eating all the rest of the cat food, so your kitchen wasn't loaded with temptation.

YOu need to move in next to Uday. Her snakes would keep the possums at bay.

That stuff is nasty and tarry, too. We had a possum that liked to hang out in the garage of our old house, and I let it until it took a dump in the stroller. Ew.

I remember when I was a kid, there was an opossum on my Dad's washing machine and it freaked me out. My dad got his gun and was going to shoot it (or so he says) but by the time we went back, it was gone.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

ok, the kids are already terrified of the spiders so knew they'd be useless with a hissing marsupial. Hubby is distinctly unpleasant without his full 8 hours. Just relieved the neighbors didn't hear the shrieks of "get ouuut" and call 911 (hmmm, maybe not...). It did play possum, several times, hence the hour it took. At one point it tried to blend in by hiding behind the fake black lab puppy- I knew we should have gotten a real one. The cats just layed around laughing at me. Went through a whole roll of Brawny and 1/2 a bottle of rug spray. Just bought a bag of latex gloves that morning. Serendipity!

"He'll be baaaaack!"

Unless you find out where he/she got access and seal it, possums won't stay away from food.

Just to add that thought into your subconscious.

By the way, if I'd have found a 'possum in my house at oh-dark-thirty, I'd have been cleaning MY poop off the floor as well. Scary lookin' critters at first glance...

Are you sure it was a possum and not an evil squirrel?

"Possum Crap" would be a great name for a country/western bar band.

An evil squirrel would have grabbed all the food and made its escape long before Second Chance started tormenting it with various housecleaning tools!

Dustbuster should glom onto this for a new ad campaign.

PS - Sorry to hear about the eventful night!

I would have herded him right out the door for you, MsSecondChance! He would never have had a first OR second chance! I'm really fast! And really a good herder! And I would have barked and barked and barked and barked and he couldn't have played possum!

Okay, I'm the weirdo. While I do not like possums inside my house (we had one do what Second Chance's did when we lived in Hunt. Beach-just wander in an eat the cat's food) I'm used to them outside and even, really, think the little ones are cute.

We had fried up something in the Daddy Fryer on the patio table and had left it out (not good idea) and when I went out at about 10 PM there was this little wee possum kid perched on top of the fryer. The light shone through his pink little ears and he WOULDN'T GET OFF. I wasn't about to touch him, so I finally made some huffing shooing noises and he jumped away. He was quite calm and bold.

Then we had a baby possum asleep in the shelves in the garage and then he climbed up a broom handle and scared the shit out of our youngest who was leaning against the garage door jamb.

They are kinda cute.

The title of this thread sounds like an Erma Bombeck book.

I knew it! You dogs are all alike!

And you get on my case for eating all that birdfeed....
