The wait is over

After a solid week of looking at new and previously-owned homes, we settled on a new one overlooking a pond in the back yard. The owner had already come down $20K from his original asking price, but we submitted and even lower offer anyway, to test the waters. After a little haggling, we settled on a price and now have to wait another 2 or 3 weeks before closing. They have some archaic method of doing title searches here extending the waiting period before closing.
There are MANY homes to choose from here ranging from nifty-looking Victorian styles to the more contemporary "box" style. I had originally wanted to go for one of the Victorian styles but the ones we looked at in our price range had rooms that were too small. There were several criteria during the search on which I would not capitulate. One being that the house had to have a decent sized master bedroom and wood floors. We decided on a 3 bedroom ranch with stone and vinyl siding exterior and one that had a full basement (only partially finished), wood floors, granite kitchen counters, stainless steel appliances and a three-car garage. As a bonus, the seller tossed in a 42" plasma TV set that is perched over the fireplace in the living room. Not where I would have put it but, hey, free is free.
So, now we we get some other ducks lined up such as the inspection and financing and start looking around for some of the other things we want to add before we move in. So much to do and so much time to do it in. We have tentatively scheduled our closing for Aug 1, so hopefully it will be finalized by then.
