Trivial Pursuit: America Plays -- They're finally looking for contestants now, instead of just people to submit questions! If you want to be a contestant on this new syndicated game show based on the popular board game, you can call the contestant hotline at 323-762-7359 to book an audition in Hollywood. You must be at least 21 years of age, not appeared on a game show in the last 12 months, and cannot have worked or know anyone at Trivial Pursuit: America Plays, Wheeler / Sussman Productions, Debmar-Mercury, or Hasbro.

Anyone joining me? I'll be there on Thursday... 8)

I'm going on Tuesday.

I got a call from them last Thursday, inviting me to audition. Apparently, this show has the same chief contestant coordinator that worked on Merv Griffin's Crosswords. She must have put my name on a list of good people to recruit for gameshows.

Yay. Sorry we won't meet, tho, PSM. Will look forward to a recap of the day's events i hope?

Are you shooting for Password too? - there are more dates coming up thru the 22nd. It's a great game & pretty hard to leave w/out at least
$25 grand...

PS - Hope you all enjoyed your day of slurpee bacchanalia! You know about keeping some large ziplocs in the glove box, "just in case," i presume... 8)

Well, good luck & hope to hear how it went! I got a call as well, stemming from the "America Submit a Question" day interview. I hope this turns out to be a good one. I was informed that if you win on this show, you can return indefinitely, kinda like "J," so the cash is indefinite as well. Just not sure how much potential is in the kitty.

There is a video on youtube that features clips from what I assume was a run-through. Enter keywords: Trivial Pursuit America Plays

This showed the final question being worth almost $40,000.

They are having an event in Charlotte tomorrow to solicit questions.

I will be there with interesting questions and a nice smile in case they like me as a contestant.

For those in the area, it's at Carolina Place from noon-7. Maybe 1230 instead of noon. I will be there at noon.

We are having a farewell party for our departed colleagues in Sports at 1...

So they know you've been on a show in the last 12 months, but they called you anyway.
I, on the other hand, am not feeling the love. No call for me.

I have not been a show in the past 12 months and they haven't called. Of course I turned down the chance to appear on Crosswords.

I don't care what Bonnie Raitt says- you CAN make them love you!!! unless of course there's some pesky restraining order on file...

Tribune Studios. Near where the Hollywood Fwy crosses Sunset Blvd.

Same place as Crosswords? The old KTLA studios. That's where I taped J!

Wow, the name KTLA is a blast from the past. When we had cable TV in Albuquerque back in the late 70s and early 80s, one of the channels we received was Channel 5 KTLA. I hadn't thought of that call sign in years. :)

It's still channel 5 KTLA. Part of the studio is now Tribune since they own the station.

The folks at the mall today said it's in the same place as Crosswords (KTLA). One of the cameramen was on Crosswords, also.

They cut my five questions down to two, but made one of them my original harder version. Two of them they already had (a question about Wicked, and one about Stephen Hawking), and the fifth one they said was too regional (the Wright brothers flew in NC but where were they from?).

The two that got in were about who wrote a famous song, and a baseball player of note. I will put them in emails or PMs but not out here, though they didn't say not to. I asked them about how to audition, and don't want to clutter up the scene by revealing answers in public.

As in Dayton, Ohio? That's not regional, that's trivial. I would have thought that's exactly the sort of thing they were looking for.

I only asked what state.....

I mentioned the Dayton Flyers but it was conversational, not part of the answer.

trivia question reject

At the mall search, they said my favorite trivia question was too obscure and vetoed it:

What comic had her TV sitcom debut playing Margo Van Meter - the wacky, man-hungry receptionist in a frenzied real estate office?
Spoiler

Ellen Degeneres in Fox's 1989-90 "Open House" which also starred Allison La Placa, Danny Gans, & Chris Lemmon - and was a kind of spin-off from the show "Duet"

I watched that show and liked it. At this point she is more accurately described as a talk-show host than a comic, though.

I agree with them it is too hard for most contestants. Sorry.

But the show is called "Trivial Pursuit." If most people knew the answer, it wouldn't be trivia.

Unfortunately, I don't have as much liberty this week in my schedule.
I won't be able to join you for another round of "smile for the APs".

Have fun storming the castle!

Does Trivial Pursuit have a website yet? I'd like to find out if questions can be submitted via the website. I've got some good ideas.
