Belated birthday wishes to Cindy, Lily and Jeff.
I hope you all had great birthdays. I wasn't ignoring you, but I found myself in a wireless-free internet zone* for a week. (I shouldn't complain, as I did posses the only cell phone that got a signal, and all I had to do was go outside and stand in a specific spot in the northwest corner of the upstairs deck. No one ever called while I was standing there.)
Anyway.... Cake! Ice cream! Candles! Wishes that will come true!
*I don't mean that wireless was free. I mean that there was no wireless, but "wirelessless" just doesn't sound quite right.

We've started the party for you and Astro a little early this year. We were split whether we should have the party the weekend before, or the weekend after the big day. When I was a kid, I hated having to celebrate my birthday on a day different than the official date. To compromise, we started your celebrations today, and the party will last through next Sunday.
I hope your trip was fun. How did the pups stay in touch?
Gotta run, the party gang is getting ready to start the competitive weed pulling. I opted out of the "sit on the chair to pop the balloon game" so that I could come in and post this message. I must admit that I am still scared of that balloon game. (that and opening the pillsbury biscuits)

What's up with July birthdays anyway.
I had one July birthday (my son) until last year. Now my daughter in law & son in law are in July. Natalie is August 1, so that may as well be July!
I may be making a quick trip to Dallas next weekend, the rest of the family is gone the next one, so tomorrow is July birthday day at my house.
I am making Kraft Foods Best-Ever chocolate fudge cake and now have to go gift shopping later today. Maybe it will be a good thing to get them all over with in one fell swoop.
cake recipe - so easy and so good! I think I've posted it before.

Also a request for bacon wrapped green beans.
Rinse whole green beans and sprinkle with brown sugar.
Wrap about 4-5 beans with 1/2 strip bacon. Place in casserole dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. These will disappear like hot cakes!
They are what I call labor intensive, but I'll do it for the birthday group.

Thanks SC!
Presents were got, and cake was eaten. Julie managed to light all 41 candles, but forgot to light the special candle that played "Hippo Birdy, Two Ewes" in the middle of the cake first. She nearly got 2nd-degree burns trying to get that one lit. [There was some thermocouple running up the middle of the wax which activates the sound device when the candle is lit. However, you can't turn the damn thing off except by drowning it in water. And it starts up again when you take it out of the water.]
Tonight we are going for a slightly belated B'Day dinner at "The Hobbit", one of the best restaurants in Orange County.

Around our house we've always called them Whomp Biscuits -- because that's what you have to do go open the things. Here's Fanny! wrote:I'm glad I'm not the only one who's still fearful of those damned bang on the counter biscuit tins.
