That's what gas shot up to here in Frankfort today. It was $3.89/gal yesterday morning.

In Alaska regular unleaded was selling for $4.43/gal and in the Yukon it was $1.44 (Canadian)/liter.

Lucky...gas around here is in the $4.45 + range. I used my Stop and Shop gas rewards to save 0.40 per gallon (plus 0.05 extra for using my S&S card) and was thrilled to get gas on Saturday for $4.06 a gallon (midgrade!!)...that's so sad that I was happy about that!!!

$3.979 across the street from work, about a dime more closer to home, minus 5% for using the oil company's credit card. I sometimes feel we're like the frog in the slowly heating pot of water.

It's ironic that the one economic issue that is foremost on the public's mind is the one on which the Republicans offer easy-to-understand proposals which have the appearance that they may work while the Democrats offer a "comprehensive energy policy," which is codewords for doing little to change the status quo.

The Republicans are painting the Democrats as obstructionists while they offer solutions. Obama had better get a handle on this issue quickly or it's going to be a major stumbling block for him.

Thanks to all the food I bought for the reunion as well as what seems like daily trips to S&S, Husband bought gas last week for $2.85/gal.

Gotta love this promotion.

Dang, I knew I should have gassed up when I was out and about yesterday (it was 3.87) but I still had half a tank left.

If it has risen similarly here, I'll have to check out Costco when I'm out today. They are usually a day or so behind in raising the prices.

When I filled-up on my way back from NTN last week, I found the prices had actually dropped!

The week before prices at two of the Exxon stations I pass were $4.099. The one that I use was $3.999.

Last week the first two were $4.039 and the one I used was $3.939.

Pikers. My local Chevron's been at $4.699 for regular for a few weeks now. I need premium, so I've been paying $4.879. Heck, that's nearly $1.30 a litre! ($1.289 actually).

Actually, prices in LA have been going down slightly the last week or two. Diesel especially - I've seen it back down near $5 (from $5.20-$5.30).

It may be time for that natural gas Honda Civic. The local CNG station is selling a gasoline-gallon equivalent for $3.049.

Who will you blame after January 2009? How long does the 'Bush stink' last for you?

At what point does it become the incumbent's fault?

Finally, just how powerful do you think the President, any President, is?

The fact that China is adding 25,000 cars PER DAY to their highways and thus, along with a booming economy in India with commensurate upturn in oil/gas use, has nothing to do with the current price of gas?

A stronger demand with no increase in supply (even minor declines due to Nigeria, et al) and you wonder why prices rise? I'm not an expert so I don't know how much the speculators' market is affecting the price, but I sure do think the old supply and demand model is in play.

A friend of mine who was home from London this weekend told me that gas is at about $12/gallon over there (he did the conversion for me and saved me the "how many liters to a gallon" confusion)...so we've actually had it good for a long time. It's a shock, definitely for gas to go up this much this quickly...but I think we're just catching up to the rest of the world. But make no mistake, just because I can understand it, doesn't mean I like it!!!

My Toyota Prius should be at the dealer any day now. I've been on the waiting list since May 5th. My gasoline usage will be slightly less than half what I'm going through with the Impala. My Impala is dying anyway (burning a quart of oil every 700 miles or so), so I need a car.

I'm afraid that gas prices will get worse before they get better. You know that Isreal is going to do something about Iran before January, especially if Obama wins the election. I'm sure a major war in the Middle East will send the price of gas even higher.

The cost of the gas is roughly the same, but in some countries, the cost of getting it to the gas station may be higher due to more expensive supply routes. In addition, any environmental measures that a country chooses to impose (or here in the US which a particular state may impose) will also drive up the cost of the gas.

However, in Europe, everything that you can drive to is a lot closer than it is here. The entire country of England (not counting Scotland or Wales) is slightly smaller in size than Alabama, for example. France is much larger, about the size of Colorado and Wyoming combined, but it still makes driving anywhere in the country less of a trip than crosscountry travel here.

The rise in Europe is rapid, but the rate of increase isn't as high as ours. One reason is the taxes - they aren't all percentage based. The other reason is that oil hasn't gone up as much in terms of euros (or British pounds) per barrel as it has in US dollars.

For example, when I left the UK in 2002, regular gas was about £0.77/l. It's now about £1.20/l six years later. I think gas here is up 2x-2.5x in the same period.

I picked up my 125cc scooter on May 14. Since then I have put 930.8 miles on it. I have put in 9.779 gallons, and currently have about 1/2 tankful.

"Bubbles" and I run errands, drive to school, and go grocery shopping. She's legal for everything except freeways. More and more scooters are appearing on the roads.

I'm just sayin' . . .

One expensive station in the Bronx hit $4.70 for plain ol' unleaded. Others like $4.40ish.

In Suffolk Co. (Long Island) $4.30ish is the norm at the moment.

NJ is cheaper but some brands are charging more for credit than cash, something not the norm in NY.
