She said she was from WWTBAM!

I listened to the message while holding my breath....

They wanted to talk to Joe

He'll call tomorrow to find out what they wanted....

For a few moments I thought I might actually get a chance at the hotseat...

Dang! I like Joe and all that, but that must have been quite the adrenalin builder.

We can still send good vibes for a happy card soon.

Well you've certainly piqued my curiosity. And probably about 9 others, if they read this. Please let us know when you learn what this is about.

And good luck with your quest for the hotseat.

Sure Ed. I'll let you know if it's anything related to past winners. Joe doesn't think it's anything special.. Maybe just an update on what he's been up to these past 8 years.

Maybe they're thinking about a ToC or bringing back the Three Wise Men LL?

BTW, you may recall I auditioned with you in San Jose in 2001.

I think I'll get Skip to put in a few prank calls to Marley from my office phone. I'd probably wet my pants, but it'd be worth it.....

Erk! A letdown, to be sure. It'll be for you next time, and not just to ask how it felt when Joe won.

I don't know where you're located, but if you're local, they could be calling him to ask if he wants to help out with a rehearsal. I know they've been doing that.

California isn't local! :)

I will guess & then check back to read if I was right:

Maybe they want Joe to be a PAF for people with pathetic PAFs? There have been a lot of recent players who seriously could have used Joe. Or, to be honest, any decently triva-smart person, especially one who could Google too.

My wish is that they're bringing back PTBAM for the 20-mil & they want Joe to be part of that extra lifeline they had of 3 experts, but since Regis is otherwise employed game-show-wise at this time, & they don't wanna bring back PTBAM anyway, I doubt it. But I can always hope.

Hey mellow, this is obviously what they've got up their sleeve regarding Joe. But how CRUEL was that phone call! sheesh. Let us know when your pulse regulates...

Does anyone know when Joe appeared and have a link to the transcript (or if there is a video of it)? I would love to see it!

Thanks,

He was on the primetime show, March 23, 2000.

It looks like someone has video of his appearance on YouTube. Just search for "Joe Trela".

webcam?

Holy Sh*t. Anybody who wants a Googler better get their PAFs to say "I am too scared to be a PAF on camera". Unless they're going to relax the "don't use electronic devices" rule beyond a wink & a nod.

Frankly, I think the "on camera" aspect would freeze even non-googlers.

It sounds like they're only asking the "celebrity" PAFs--former contestants and who knows who else--to appear on a webcam. The run-of-the-mill PAFs will simply be represented by the photos they provide.

Getting webcam connections set up and working at a quality level acceptable for airing on the show will mean a lot more work for the APs...or for Skippy the Intern.

What's weird is that TheConfessor on another thread or maybe this one (I should check; I'm lazy) reacted to my somewhat tongue-in-cheek report that when the show was but a babe I thought they sent camera crews to the PAFs' houses as though I really really meant it (well, I did, but not for very very long; he sounded like maybe he thought I still meant it), but this newest twist would be the very thing I once long ago thought/feared.

They probably aren't sending crews to houses though. They will probably have their celeb PAFs show up in local ABC affiliate stations for makeup & filming. Under TV lights. I can't think of anything less conducive to PAFing. Well, OK, having your toes or any other sensitive body parts run over simultaneously with the call would be even worse.

If they don't do this, though, the sound quality of the answers is gonna render understanding impossible. About the lamest thing I ever heard was a contest some network's morning show held a few years ago where people sent their webcam tapes in. I am a fan of good sound. These people who thought they were singers, & for all I know may have been in person, were providing OK pictures but with Radio-Shack/50s transistor quality (far worse, actually) sound, which is what most webcams that aren't owned by TV stations & haven't been outfitted with decent microphones provide.

I watched the YouTube video of Joe's $1 million question, last night. I had forgotten how long he spent on that one--about six minutes! You could tell Regis was getting antsy; on the one hand, that level is so rare that he knew he had to give Joe the time, on the other, Joe was being very quiet during his deliberations and Reege wasn't being too successful in getting Joe to verbalize his thought process.

We'd never see a scene like that on SyndieBAM!

Actually, Joe spent 15 minutes to answer that last question. Regis tried his best to get Joe to spit something out, but Joe can be quite stoic if he feels the need to deliberate before answering. As I recall, Reege was suffering from an injured shin that evening, the result of fouling off a baseball at the Yankees training camp a day earlier. So he was in pain, plus had an emceeing gig after the show that he was running late for.
