Auditions for AYSTA5G
Danielh and I decided to car pool from Fort Worth to Dallas for the auditions. We arrived about 8:30, and found the specified room in the Hyatt Regency. The production team had set up in 3 meeting rooms in the basement of the hotel. There were no trivia tests or other qualifying quizzes. We sat in one of the meeting rooms until our name was called, then went into another room, had a digital picture taken, and then interviewed with two women on the production staff. An individual's time in the interview room was limited to about 5 minutes. It was all pretty perfunctory.
The ad on Craig's List asked for several specific types of individuals, like Cowboys, people with unusual occupations, people with academic awards, etc. We saw two or three people who were called into another room to fill out another form. One of these people was dressed in a cowgirl outfit with a sash that said "Miss something Texas". Another one had a cowboy hat.
We talked to a couple that had a great hook. He's from Dallas, she's from Australia, they met via the internet, they've been married 2 & 1/2 years, she sent in an application without telling him, and she wants to be on Hell's Kitchen, another Fox show. If they don't get on, then I have no clue as to what they're looking for

Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!
That'll be $10, please.

After reading that audition report, I now understand WHY the contestants on this show don't seem to know even BASIC trivia. They must just pick out the most interesting, telegenic people they can find-and hope they can act excited, jump up and down all over the place, do crazy dances, etc. Trivia smarts doesn't seem to be a requirement.
The lady on the show last week didn't know which mountain range the Matterhorn is in-she thought it was either the Applachians or the Himalayas-gimme a BREAK. I've actually been to Zermatt, the Swiss town near the Matterhorn, so I KNEW where it is.
I can't believe they don't give tests in order to get on 5th Grader. That explains a lot about what we see week in and week out. I highly doubt they'll give the million away-unless a BB manages to impress the APs enough to get on.

I'm just a game show nerd.

I figured that I did have an "unusual job," even if it is only part time. And Jeff Foxworthy has a whole comedy bit on being "nekkid" that I thought might make for an entertaining exchange. But I only got just a few minutes with the two ladies (and I should really call them girls since they weren't very old).
They did say that they would be taping in El Lay at the end of July and that if I'm selected, I would get a call next week. But Rexer and I were not among the very few that went to the other room to fill out more paperwork, so I am not holding my breath.

He and marley should carpool.sunflower wrote:Is there an audition schedule anywhere? Or do you just have to watch Craig's list? What section of Craig's list did you find it in?
My boyfriend loves the show and would be great for it, I think. I would love to find a semi-local audition for us to attend!!
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Last week, they reported this generic audition notice in the Dallas Craig's List. It says something about this show that they are not announcing an audition schedule and are lookin for specific audition hooks without even mentioning the show's name.sunflower wrote:Is there an audition schedule anywhere? So are they going elsewhere? Who knows?

I did a search in Craig's List in both TV/Video/etc or whatever, and in gigs. I searched for trivia and "game show". They had a number of different ads, but didn't reveal the name of the show until an ad that appeared on Jul. 2nd for auditions on Jul. 5th.sunflower wrote:Do you know what section of Craig's list it was in? Or what the title of the ad was? I'd like to be able to watch for it around here.
I'm sure it will be a while before they make it out to the east coast, if at all, but I can always hope.
There is also an application on the shows web site in Fox.com. That's how the Australian lady signed up her husband.
Just for the record, Danielh and I both wore light blue button down shirts and khaki pants. Maybe we should have coordinated our clothes better.

Maybe you should have gone as the Regis Millionaire twins.

We weren't exactly the same. Rexer's shirt was of the short sleeved variety, while I had long sleeves. And why was I wearing long sleeves in Texas in July? I don't know...Rexer25 wrote:
