I have fallen to the dark side...
Following Danielh's lead, I sent an email to AYSTAFG, and they want me to audition Saturday.
Srsly, Marley, I need a core dump. I've seen the show a couple of times, but I need more info on the cheats, the prize levels and the categories.
Daniel, I'll send you a PM.

What's the contact info and where are they auditioning? I can't imagine getting selected for the show, but I'm willing to temporarily make a fool of myself for a likely half a million.Rexer25 wrote:Following Danielh's lead, I sent an email to AYSTAFG, and they want me to audition Saturday.

Go to the Dallas craigslist, and search for trivia. They've had 3 or 4 ads about this without mentioning which show it is. You'll have to send an email with a recent photo, and they'll call back in a day or so.slam wrote:What's the contact info and where are they auditioning? Thanks. Dallas isn't going to work for me, though.Rexer25 wrote:Go to the Dallas craigslist, and search for trivia. They've had 3 or 4 ads about this without mentioning which show it is. Hopefully Marley will let me know if they come to our neck of the woods.

They're being kinda stealthy about this audition stuff. I would suggest checking your local Craig's list weekly. They do not mention which show they casting for in the ad.slam wrote:Thanks. Since I'm here I'll put in my description.
A typical board would look like:
FIFTH GRADE MATH / FIFTH GRADE LITERATURE
FOURTH GRADE LIFE SCIENCE / FOURTH GRADE GEOGRAPHY
THIRD GRADE EARTH SCIENCE / THIRD GRADE GRAMMAR
SECOND GRADE READING / SECOND GRADE HISTORY
FIRST GRADE ENGLISH / FIRST GRADE SPELLING
Answer ten questions (two at each grade level 1-5) to get to $500,000, and you get to choose the order of subjects, i.e. you can tackle the third to fifth grade stuff first if you wish. Most questions are NOT multiple choice, but some are true-false or have three possible answers. Each correct answer adds to your winnings, and the fifth correct answer is a safe $25K like WWTBAM. You have five classmates and choose one for each pair of questions. Your classmate writes down the answer first then you give yours verbally.
Lifelines one of each allowed through course of game, are
"Peek" See your classmate's answer
"Copy" Commit to your classmate's answer like the 1 v 100 'trusts' the mob's plurality.
"Save" does not need to be invoked. If you are wrong and the kid is right, you are saved and credited with a right answer.
Above 25K it goes 50K-100K-175K-300K-then 500K. You can see each question up to 500K and then walk like WWTBAM. Likewise contestants in early trouble can walk short of 25K (they are like 1K-2K-5K-10K) However, using a copy commits you to answer w/ the kid, so some leave w/lifelines unused.
If you make it to 500K you see the subject of the million dollar question, but all unused lifelines are discarded and it is a 5th grade level question. It is up to you if you want to risk $475K in order to see the actual question.
If you walk or miss short of the million, they have you say into the camera, "I am (name), and I am not smarter than a fifth grader."
Good luck if you go for it!

I can tell you all that stuff after you pass the audition.Rexer25 wrote: Srsly, Marley, I need a core dump. I've seen the show a couple of times, but I need more info on the cheats, the prize levels and the categories.
To prepare for that, you need to be manic. Take all the emotion your two daughters are capable of displaying, all their nervous, excited energy when they're getting ready to do their favorite things. And then build on that.
If they ask you any trivia questions in a mock game format, develop a repertoire of ways to answer. Be nervous, be stupid, be weird. For heaven's sake, don't just answer the question--Jeff hates that. Repeatedly reading the questions aloud several times in a row seems to be acceptable.
And try to remember some TV-worthy anecdotes from when you were in 5th grade.

Snaxx,
Thanks for the run-down. I needed someone to fill in the gaps in my knowledge of the show, and you did that.
Marley,
Thanks for the audition tips. Mrs. Rexer wants to drive with me into Dallas, and take the girls to a friend's house where they can swim while I audition. It'll drive my wife crazy, but I'll try to build off their excitement for swimming on the trip over.
