It's so tricky, it's as if Thursday doesn't exist!

Here's the deal: real life intervened yesterday, and I didn't post either Double Play Wednesday games. Combine that with the fact that I didn't have a Tricky Thursday game written, and what we have is a time warp. Today will be a double play day instead of Wednesday. There will be NO Tricky Thursday question. We'll finish off the month with Jeopardy on Friday and one last Qod Weekend edition, also posted on Friday. I promise to do my level best to have the Answers/Points/Standings caught up by then....

Remember, I'll post one game this morning, then post a second game sometime later. I will try to give a ten or fifteen minute warning before I post the second game. If you choose to answer this first set, you may only answer the second set for funsies. The category for today's first game is:

Classic Video Games
10 points per correct answer.

1. What color was Pac-Man? Ms. Pac-Man? Ms. Pac-Man’s bow? (must get all three to get the points)
2. What video game hero got his start in the arcade version of Donkey Kong (his original name was Jumpman.)?
3. What video game series has included the titles “A Link to the Past,” “Majora’s Mask,” and “The Phantom Hourglass?”
4. What current video game system allows you (for a small fee, of course) to download and play games from as far back as the mid-1980s?
5. The arcade version of this 1978 game couldn’t generate multicolor graphics, so strips of orange and green cellophane were placed over the screen to simulate color graphics.
6. Square Enix, the current publisher of this video game series which began in 1987, released or will release at least five different chapters this year, including Crisis Core for the PSP and Grimoire of the Rift for the Nintendo DS.

Yes! Yes! Yes!!!!

1. What color was Pac-Man? Ms. Pac-Man? Ms. Pac-Man’s bow? (must get all three to get the points) - Yellow, yellow, red
2. What video game hero got his start in the arcade version of Donkey Kong (his original name was Jumpman.)? - Mario (Named for one of the early Nintendo company's old landlords)
3. What video game series has included the titles “A Link to the Past,” “Majora’s Mask,” and “The Phantom Hourglass?” - The Legend of Zelda (Never played anything more than the original and Adventures of Link, though...)
4. What current video game system allows you (for a small fee, of course) to download and play games from as far back as the mid-1980s? - I know nothing about current video game systems! How about the XBox?
5. The arcade version of this 1978 game couldn’t generate multicolor graphics, so strips of orange and green cellophane were placed over the screen to simulate color graphics. - Space Invaders?
6. Square Enix, the current publisher of this video game series which began in 1987, released or will release at least five different chapters this year, including Crisis Core for the PSP and Grimoire of the Rift for the Nintendo DS. - Aw, damn! If it began in 1987, I have to be familiar with the early versions of the series, but I can't pick up any clues from the recent titles. I'll guess Metal Gear since I know it's still kicking around

I thought this was gonna be easier! My pal Desgeega could write a mean quiz about the old NES....

And it's on like Donkey Kong! (I so seldom get to quote NWA that I have to take it where I can, ha!)

I was so tempted to answer this one, since I know at least three of them. I'm sure I know the answer to #4 but I can't come up with it and rather than it bugging the crap out of me for four hours, I'm looking at Evil Squirrel's answer and posting about it just to disqualify myself.

Man, I want a mega quiz all about Mario, I would rule the school! Classic Mario, none of that Kart and Doctor and whatnot crap. I am the Mario 1-3 Master. I was so unhappy when they came out with Super NES because that meant they stopped making Mario games for my 8 bit system.

As for the Evil One,

Dude, you need to fall on by the house, my 'tendo is hooked up and ready to go!

And maybe you can answer something that has bugged me for a long time since you're all old school here. There was a console game in this restaurant I managed and after it got robbed one night and they tried to pry open the panel it was bent just enough that we could slip a long bread knife in there and click off free games. So I became a master at that game, ha! Anyway, I can't remember the name of it for the life of me and it bugs me when I think of it. Here's the deal:

It was a cityscape and you were a helicopter (I think, maybe a plane) that flew above the city at night and dropped bombs and had things shot at you. That's a bit simplified, but I can't remember all the ins and outs except it got really hard as you went up in levels.

I should probably start a new thread on old school video games, huh? Tell you what if you have an answer, start a new one and just give a "Don't answer until you've looked at today's QOD or some such".
