Teenagers, fresh air and sunshine, oh my

Amazing, what the combination of fresh air and sunshine can do to a lethargic teen.

Big J and I spent the day at the local swap n shop, as I had been re-organizing, and had lots of "treasures" to dispose of. It starts at 7:00 am, so we were up at 5:30, packing the car, and headed out by 6:30

First really sunny and warm day of the year. By 10:30, he was lying down inside the car, "just resting my eyes"

By the timw we closed up, repacked and headed home it was 2:30. We got home, unloaded, then poured some nice cold lemonade. I said that I was going to have a short lie-down, and he said he was going to play a video game.

When I got up 1 hour later, he was in bed, sawing logs like there was no tomorrow. I just let him sleep it out. He got up around 10 pm, had a bowl of cereal, then went back to bed.

He was still sleeping when I left for work at 7:30 am today.

Camp next week should be reallllly rough on him LOL

Maddie sleeps in when she can. Yesterday she slept until 11:00. She would have slept longer, but I came into her room and said "Wake up! The Princess needs to clean her room."

Today she had to wake up at 6:30, because she has summer school. She has to spend 7 1/2 hours in a room with a Football Coach who is teaching her all about health. She says that he is a nice guy, but sitting in a room for 7 1/2 hours a day is not her idea of fun. (She usually finishes all of the work after five hours and spends two hours a day reading.)

Emma has fun summer school. She is taking a cooking class, an origami class, a painting class and a greeting card making class.

Is Maddie taking this class for advanced placement? Are the summer school classes being offered by their regular schools or is thiis more in the order of a summer camp?

Maddie could only take 7 classes last year because of quiz bowl practice. She needed to take Health and Career planning, so she is doing it over the summer to get the requirement out of the way. Most of the college bound kids who are involved in activities have to do the same thing. These kids all really need to take 8 classes a year, but it's nearly impossible without summer school.

Kids who flunked out also have to retake the class because it's required to graduate. In her class of 28, 6 are honor students, then rest are on their own path. (One of the girls got a 59% on one of the tests and asked the teacher if it was an "A.")
