I think Disney's jumped the shark...

...with their "High School Musical"-type shows.

Since I have a daughter of the right age, I sat with her and watched "Camp Rock" tonight.

In a word...it sucked...badly.

HSM had the hippness and cool music to attract the tweens in...but it also had a smart story and good actors to drive it along.

"Camp Rock" had none of that...just hip-looking cool tweens/teens singing and dancing with awkward scenes in between that felt like filler whose sole purpose was to get you to the next number.

And I guess was a "vehicle" for the Jonas Brothers (although only one of them was in it for any great length of time).

Oh...and it was a nice vehicle to promote the upcoming Cheetah Girls movie, their new video, the aforementioned Jonas brothers' new video, "High School Musical- Get in the Picture" and "Wipeout".

In short, simply a 3-hour long advertisement.

NOT impressed AT ALL (and my daughter wasn't really, either).

I feel so lucky that my girls are cynical and hate all of the HSM and Jonas Brothers crap.

You are a good dad to sit through it with your daughter.

That's three words.

What is this? A new movie? A live show? Whatever it is, I'll make a point to avoid it, except for acquiring a general awareness of it for the purpose of answering trivia questions.

I posted about watching Camp Rock last night on a FNGD thread, because our meister Etaoin had asked a question on Friday about one of the young stars.

I am all about sacrifice for the sake of learning. (Okay, not much sacrifice, and not much learning.)

Instead of watching the show, Maddie was watching "I love the 80's" on VH1, or as she says, studying for Quiz Bowl.
