Contestant pool question?

Hello, I am new to this board.

Anyway, I have a few questions.

Last summer I went to to audition for TV week WWTBAM.

I took both tests and passed both. When I received the postcard in the

mail, It said I was in the pool, with the word TV highlighted. So does

that mean that I am in the pool for TV week? or both ? My understanding

is your're supposed to receive both postcards in the mail. I didn't get the

call, so I assume I am in pool. That's why I didn't audition again this year,

because I was afraid I was to be disqualified. Does anybody have any

idea if TV week will be on again this year?

Can someone shed some light?

I appreciated everybodys help.

Thank you.

Welcome to the Bored! To be sure I understand you, you auditioned in 2007, passed both tests, and received a postcard indicating that you were in the Contestant Pool for TV Week. Now you're wondering whether your card is still good for anything more than a coaster.

I don't recall whether they plan another TV Week this year, but I'd certainly encourage you to try out again for "regular" Millionaire. Even if you're still in the TV Week pool, I doubt they'd take it amiss. --Bob

Welcome, cheetah!

No, there's been no word on TV week so far, which leads me to think there won't be one....but they love to change things up, so who knows. l think that if you want, you can audition again; I'm sure they'll ask if anyone has a :-) postcard and let you know your status then.

Good luck!

Thank you for your replies.

I am still a little reluctant and worried that if I audition for the regular

test, I will be eliminated. Who knows, maybe TV week will be announced

next month, of August. If anyone has any insight or advice, please

don't hesitate to let me know.

I appreciate it very much.

Thank you.

I agree with the other two folks, but wanted to add that if it's not too much of a trip for you to get to an audition, you could go and ask them this question there. If you're still in the pool, fine. If not, you could go ahead and audition again.

Ok. Has anyone receive a happy card and sad card?

Or 2 happy cards?

Or 2 sad cards?

Not trying to be funny, just curious if anyone has had the experience.

I don't think I will be going to NY this year, the reason is I have been

unemployed for over a year and I'm still searching for a job. I only have

enough money to go to NY if I got the call. If I get the call, I'm there.

Thanks for your patience.

What no one can say for sure is if they flushed the pool over the winter, and you are no longer in it.

We know for certain that Jeopardy contestants remain in their pool for 24 months now (up from 18 and 12, previously), but it's not clear on BAM.

Since you aren't in a position to re-audition this year, I recommend sitting back and believing you are in the pool anyway (because you might be!). Then you can move on to another project, because you can't do anything about this one right now anyway.

Good luck.

Oh I hope so. Because I have read that people who have audition,

received the happy card, they're are in the pool, and the sad card

they are not. I guess I will wait it out, Good luck everybody on who

is auditioning and who will receive their happy card. :P

I'm wondering about your board name. This is a longshot, but would you happen to be a member of the Cheetara team on World Series of Pop Culture on VH1? That was another Michael Davies show. Unfortunately, there are no indications that it will return for a third season.

He already said he was a cheater. I don't think this board condones such behaviour.....oh....it's bored? And his handle is "cheetah"? Nevermind.

I'm not sure why you asked if you should audition again, if you can't audition this year anyway. I'm not sure what answer you were looking for in that respect.

But I never received a post card at all and I was on the show so don't put too much emphasis on the card. They'll call you if they want you on the show.

That's very interesting sunflower.

When did you audition for the show?

And when did you get the call ?

I been watching the show for a long time, and I have been listening

to contestants that they passed the test and sometimes get the call,

a year or two years later. I also heard that if you put it out of your mind,

and forget about it. It does happen sometimes.

When I took both tests last year, I passed both, and I was the first number

called, half the people there applauded. I was interviewed with two people,

both interviews were A-OK. I hope TV week does return this year.

I finished the test in 5 minutes, for tv week, 8 minutes for the regular one.

Thank you.

I auditioned last September, they called 2 days after my audition. But they were in production, so the same wouldn't apply to people who audition before production starts for the season. People I taped with had been in the pool for up to 2 years. But like others have said, there doesn't seem to be any (published) criteria for flushing the pool. So we don't really know.

I don't think it matters how quickly you finish the test (I also finished fast, 3 or 4 minutes), just if you pass or not. I don't know how they select who makes it on. I'd like to think it has a lot to do with the interview...but it could be just about anything. So keep your fingers crossed and try not to think about it too much...and don't change your phone number!

There was a contestant just a couple of months ago who mentioned she had been in the pool for Movie Week, but then received the call for regular Millionaire--or maybe it was the other way around, I don't remember exactly. So, it would seem you might still get the call, even if TV Week does not happen. As I suggested to someone else earlier in the week---you can always leave a message on the contestant hotline 212-456-4610. They do return calls, and they would certainly be able to clear up any confusion you may have. Good Luck!

I agree that how fast you finish the test doesn't matter to being selected. How could it? They don't track that in any way. I strongly suspect that the interview is very important to the selection process. However, one's demographics probably play a role also.

I have a question.

If I call the hotline number, would I be disqualified for contacting

them? I saw that on the WWTBAM website in the rules. Or is it

calling someone on the staff ? I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks.

I wouldn't want to steer you wrong, but assuming the contestant hotline exists for reasons such as your's, I would think it's okay to call it.

If you are really truly worried about that...just call and ask generically, say you qualified for both a theme week and the regular shows and wondered if the pool for the theme weeks carries over from season to season (or something like that). I am sure it's a PA or someone similar answering the hotline, it's not the CIA. At least I don't think so.

There is a published policy for how long one can tread water in the regular pool:
If you have auditioned before and received a postcard stating that you are in the Contestant Pool, please note: Eligibility for selection from the Contestant Pool does expire. Anyone who auditioned prior to June 2006 will need to audition again this year.
This "good for three seasons" rule has been there since they first thought of it, in May 2006. :|

Cheetah's confusion is about two separate issues:

1. Was the Happy Card for the TV Week pool only or for both that and the regular pool?

2. Do contestants in the special theme week pools stay there for two seasons or are they flushed as soon as the current's season's theme week is taped?

I agree that cheetah should call the Millionaire phone number as ask for a simple clarification of this.

Ok here is the scoop:

I call the hotline number at WWTBAM, and left a message.

An half-hour later, they returned my call, and I asked them my

situation. The woman was very sweet and told me that you are

in the pool for TV week, not in the regular pool. She said you should

have received two postcards in the mail, and both if you are in the pool,

both not in the pool, or one happy and one sad card. She also said,

it is possible that one of the postcards get lost in mail, it has happened

to some contestants. I asked her if TV week in on again this year,

she said "it hasn't been decided yet because it still to early."

She said I could audition again for the regular edition. I told her I haven't

decided yet. I am somewhat disappointed, not towards her, but to myself.

I believe I will wait at least 'til next month, if there is more special editions.

I can always later in the summer or try next year. I hope everyone

understood what I have been through. I appreciate everyones support.

It is possible I might go to NY for a show taping and audition there.

But, we'll see.

Thanks.

Yeah. This quest is frustrating, especially if you can't afford the cost of the audition trips.

Was last summer your first audition for the show? Some of us have been consumed with desire for the Hot Seat since its debut in 1999. :|

Actually, I went in June 2007, for the first audition, I didn't pass the test

but in July, I went for TV week, and the regular game. I passed both

tests.

Any postcard yet?

Has anyone receive their postcard in the mail?

Do you think that WWTBAM will start calling on the first week of July, or after the holiday weekend?

I'm rooting for everybody who auditioned.
