The first contestant got a big build-up from Jeff Foxworthy; she's a grade school teacher with 17(?) years of experience. If anyone will win the million, Jeff says, it'll be a teacher!
Sadly, she gets a nasty 3rd Grade Grammar question:
How many plural pronouns are in the following sentence? "Sierra and Cody told us that their grades were better than ours, but we didn't believe them."
She confidently goes with three as her answer (us, we, them). Sierra can't save her with the answer of four. Nathan, sitting at his desk, has the right answer of five (us, their, ours, we, them). So the teacher goes home with nothing.
The second contestant comes from a family where both his parents and his sister are doctors, his brothers are lawyers...and he's a medical equipment salesman.
And he manages to walk away with $175K, after declining to guess on the 5th Grade Measurements question:
To the nearest thousand, how fast is the speed of light in miles per second?
The full transcript is available on
this thread of the 5th Grader message board.

Are the spoilers are really needed? Is anyone here recording this show for later viewing?
Hermillion being an exception, teachers generally have an aversion to risks of losing money on these trivia shows. Even a few thousand dollars adds a significant percentage to their income. It doesn't take a lot of uncertainty in their answer to make them take the money and run.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I don't know if it's necessary, but the button makes it easy to create the spoiler tags and it only takes a mouse click to read them, so why not? The nested spoilers are also nice for those who want to read the question and try to answer it themselves before reading the answer.

You're right. I think anyone reasonable would walk with $500K on this show, rather than risking it without being able to see the $1 million question first. I hate that rule of this show.
But this teacher never got up to the point where that was a consideration. She llamaed on the $5K question.

Was this a new show? I thought it would be in reruns by now so haven't been watching or recording it.

Yes, this was a new one. I think it's a new one next week, too.

Thanks. A bit surprising but I guess I will put it back in the Tivo rotation.
