Another Show.

Tonight (Friday) is opening night for Garland Summer Musicals' production of Damn Yankees. I am ready to get this show going. The past 24 days of rehearsal have seemed much longer.

The cast is great, and it has been a ton of fun, but I am exhausted.

I am a featured singer in two songs ("Heart" and "The Game") and I dance in the two big production numbers ("Shoeless Joe" and "Two Lost Souls").

I also appear onstage in a towel in a locker room scene.

Okay, so it's actually two towels. I have to drape one over my back and shoulders in order to cover up my tattoo. If I didn't have the tat, I would be going onstage with just the towel around my waist (with appropriate undergarments of course).

Break a leg, Cal! Or, as they would say in France, merde!

Our director called us together last night to tell us that we may have to cancel Oklahoma!. :( We have the principals and the young ladies, but there are not enough farmers and cowboys to do justice to the music. Another victim of gas prices. We need to recruit cast from a 40-mile radius, and people just can't afford it this year. We'll find out Monday night whether the show goes on.

I think gas prices are really going to hurt many theatres. Particularly Community Theatres that can't afford to pay their actors. I've heard a few ensemble folks in Damn Yankees say that their pay won't even cover the cost of gas for them.
