Job cuts- I know more, and I'm now more comfortable

They are merging our department with another, and my group here in the US is losing 2 jobs. Don't know yet whether mine will be one of them.
The eliminated positions may be figured out via a selection "pool" or they may just choose to cut them- I could see it go either way- especially since the "pools" can really only be worldwide pools, and since they've already guaranteed the outcome (2 positions lost from my dept in the US, and 8 in the UK), they can't go that way.
They also mentioned the package, which includes a 60-day transition and most likely a minimum of 3 months severance with free benefits throughout. And, of course, after the transition period, I can collect unemployment. And, they hinted they may be "enhancing" the package anyway...to quickly make the negative publicity go away
That makes even a negative outcome (I lose my job) not so hard to handle. Because, given that the final decisions are at least two weeks away, that gives me 5-1/2 months at the least with full pay. I should be able to find a new job in that time.
So i am breathing easier.
