Good point. I had forgotten about that.

Although Rocco Mediate's chances of making the team have increased!

I have no reason to watch golf anymore for the rest of the season.

Well, Tiger hasn't been all that good in previous Ryder Cups, and this might allow the American team to have less stress on it, as the underdog.

I had wondered if maybe his knee/leg might have been up to simplying playing maybe 2 times at Valhalla. Apparently, that has been ruled out.

[I also wonder if he would have been able to play in the Ryder Cup had he not played in the US Open. (Both under the issue of the delayed surgery and if he further injured himself.) My guess is that he was missing the rest of the season, no matter what. He just saw an opportunity to win another major at a favorite course and went for it.]

Of course, unless Phil goes on a winning streak in Tiger's absence, Tiger likely still will be number 1 when he returns.

I don't doubt his knee was bothering him. I just like to see someone else win every now and then. He's a great golfer. What I want to know is why his knee wasn't fixed right in the first place? He should have the best knee surgeon there is as his doctor.

My snide comment was directed at the blogger of and the responders to the blog that HD posted yesterday, not to what anybody said on this bored.

Here is a snippet from the cnn.com article

Woods also said he suffered a double stress fracture of his left tibia while preparing to return to the PGA Tour last month, which forced him to miss the Memorial and was the source of his pain at Torrey Pines when he won the U.S. Open.

So, he won the U.S. Open with a broken leg.

Also, while it does seem like Tiger wins every major, he has won only two of the last six, coming in second in three of the times he didn't win, so somebody else DOES win every now and then. In fact, somebody else does win more often than Tiger does.

Just guessing from a trip through the Google News hits, he basically got a quick fix to be able to play in this tournament. Apparently he knew that to get it done right would be season-ending right there. And now he's willing to do that. There wasn't any hint of why it was so important to him to play in this particular tournament.

According to ESPN, he also is having surgery to fix his ACL, which he hurt last year while jogging.

So, Tiger "ignored" a stress fracture from the Memorial and an ACL tear from a year ago. He really, really wanted to win this US Open.

I guess that he now will win his 19th major not at Pebble Beach but rather St. Andrews in 2010.

Tiger needs to finish in the top ten, of every major, until 2020 to tie Jack Nicklaus for top ten finishes in majors. (It was 2019 but now this year is gone.)

I applaud him for following his doctor's advice (even if a little late).

The rest of the season wil be what it is.

I am thinking I will be more happier with the outcomes.

I saw this stat Monday (I think) as well.

But in the end no one will pay much attention to it if Woods ends up with more wins overall and in Majors by the time he is done.

By my count, while Nicklaus' acheivement for consistency in majors is a remarkable in its own right, Woods is on a similar pace. Nicklaus had 31 top tens in his first 45 Majors as a pro while Woods has 29 in his first 45. Good chance that when Woods is done he will be close in percentage of top tens when he is done as well. He just may not play as long. And Nicklaus didn't miss a major for some 35 years. Woods will now miss at least two it would appear.

They were/are both remarkable in their own right!

Well, that is the end of my mother's golf watching for this year.
