As much as I like to think that I'm not a Celtics fan anymore, I admit I had tears at the end of the game. And yay! for Big Baby finally getting some Finals time!
I adore Paul Pierce and I was thrilled when he got the MVP. I would have understood if it was Ray Allen (I loved all his 3's (didn't he break the record?) and that the old guy finally got a championship) but I was sure they'd give it to Garnett. When Stern finally got finished horsing around and made a comment mentioning something about the truth, I started cheering.
The Lakers lack any character at all. Despite what the Celtics did in Game 4 (and almost pulled off in Game 5), they'd given up at halftime and Kobe Bryant spent most of the second half sitting on the bench and pouting.
In contrast, at the end the Celtics dribbled out the entire shot clock and gave the ball back to the Lakers rather than going for the MOV record.
Ugly championship tees, though. When did they get so boring? I think my 86 tee has a caricature of the Big Three on it (or maybe that was 84, ha!).

Bah! "World Champion" my ass.
The Celtics are NBA champions. They won the league championship. They did not have to beat anyone from any of the leagues around the world, therefore they are not "World Champions".
Why isn't NBA Champion enough? Why does it have to be "World Champion"?

I believe that one of the big reasons why US teams haven't done so well in international competitions is because of the way NBA games are officiated versus how international competition games are called. Yes this Tim Donaghy thing does have me down. I don't really believe that the league office fixed games (at least I hope not), but the general officiating of games in the NBA is absolutely horrendous. There is no consistency at all; star players do get special treatment in regards to foul calls, traveling, etc. (calls they don't get in international competition).
I think the main problem is David Stern. If he can't recognize that his league has a major problem and address it, then he needs to be removed from office.

I've been screaming for the last 10 years for David Stern to be tossed out on his ear, but none of the NBAPTB will listen to me.
