WWTBAM Bored

My last Father's Day with a child under my roof. *sniff* Boomerangs and four-legged kids notwithstanding.

GW and BD came home from the florist with a design for the centerpieces. BD wants a Newport theme, and pineapples are ubiquitous there as symbols of hospitality. The centerpiece is in a plastic container that looks like a marble vase. An arrangement of roses and greenery, with a real pineapple in the middle. It's original, and looks better than it describes.

The florist also wants to prepare the entire chuppah. Including building it. She's relatively new as a florist (came recommended by the photographer, who so far has been fabulous so we trust his judgement), and is all excited about the prospect. Quite creative in general, as seen by the pineapple centerpiece. It should be good. Chuppah - check.

The local bridesmaid is annoying BD. She no longer lives locally, but her parents are here and she visits fairly frequently. She still hasn't picked up her dress. And apparently can't be bothered to come here, so BD will have to bring it to her. That and some other annoyances have BD in a snit today.

We were looking at ketubot last night (ketubah - Jewish marriage contract; ketubot - plural form). They come with interfaith text versions as well as the traditional Jewish texts and something called "secular humanist". Seems to me if you wanted that last version, it's a bit oxymoronic with the whole idea of a document whose roots are so grounded in religion. Whatever. In any case, BD has inherited our tastes, i.e., expensive. None of the ones she liked were under $250. They don't take too long to prepare and deliver, but we need to decide soon.

Probably won't have a blog tomorrow, and maybe not the next day either. Travelling to NJ for an audit and to NYC for an audition. Won't be back home till almost midnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Gotta go pack and study. TTFN!

I'm sorry, Sunflower. Try to overlook it and I think it was tongue-in-cheek.....and not a slam at you. Sometimes the written word is harder to figure out than when we can hear someone say it to us.

Kay's right, Sunflower. Some of us have known each other for a long time and give each other trouble just for the perverse fun of being contrary. Of course, a couple of people can be pills, too, but you'll sort them out soon enough.

When in doubt, assume that comments are made with no snarky intentions.

I don't know, exactly. I was editing my post to get the quotes lined up right, and you must have clicked your response just before I clicked my revision.

Am I the only one worried about BD's ability to adjust to military life and the shift in life style that will require?

I am hoping someone is talking to her about that.

No, you're not. But then, that's my job.

The adjustment to another lifestyle, whether military or any other, is going to be a major factor. It always is in a marriage, barring a reasonably long live-together situation prior to the ceremony. I'm sure that's causing part of the stress. She'll be in the upper tier with no lifelines left, and the nearest milestone/relative is in Salt Lake City.
