Today's game is pretty much identical to a combination of two of lb's excellent Lyrically Speaking games from a few months ago. There is a theme to the ten lyrics below, and within that them five pairs can be made. Identify the theme (10 pts), the title and singer of each song (5+5 for ten points each), and pair them up according to the theme (10 pts per correct pair) for a total of 160 points possible today. Many of these songs have been used before in LS, I'm sure, and I can't even swear the theme's not a retread, but I'm reasonably sure I at least came up with a couple of new pairs.

I'm sorry this one is posted so late. My m-i-l is having some health issues right now, which is making a busy summer even busier. I'm still on it, though! :)

1. Everyone around
Love them, love them
Put it in your hands
Take it, take it

2. Slipping dodging sneaking creeping hiding out down the street
See me life shakin’ with every ho’ I meet
Refried confusion is makin’ itself clear
Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here

3. Oh, she walks slowly, across a young man's room
She said I'm ready...for you
I can't remember anything to this very day
'Cept the look, the look...
Oh, you know where, now I can't see, I just stare...

4. Satisfaction came in a chain reaction - Do you hear?
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self destruct,
The heat was on, rising to the top
Everybody's goin' strong

5. Put on your noseguard
Put on the lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter
Here comes a stingray
There goes a manta-ray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish

6. I pulled into town in a police car
Your daddy said I took you just a little too far
Ya tellin' me things but'chor girlfriend lied
You can't catch me 'cause the rabbit done died

7. So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
as clear as the sun in the summer sky

8. We've all got our own funny moods
I've got mine, woman you've got yours too
Just trust in me like I trust in you
As long as we've been together it should be so easy to do

9. I’m so happy ’cause today
I found my friends
They’re in my head
I’m so ugly, but that’s okay
Cause so are you
Broke our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care
And I’m not scared

10. If you are serious
Don’t play with my heart
It makes me furious
But if you want me to love you
Then a baby I will, girl you know that I will

The overall theme is "Songs That Are Not In My Opera."

I know that's correct, but I don't know any of the other things you asked.

I'm very discouraged, so I'm going to go off and hum some new hums.

Spoiler
1. SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE - R.E.M.
2. IN THE RIGHT PLACE - DR. JOHN
3. ALIVE - PEARL JAM
4. Nope
5. ROCK LOBSTER - B-52s
6. WALK THIS WAY - AEROSMITH
7. MORE THAN A FEELING - BOSTON
8. Nope
9. LITHIUM - NIRVANA
10. TELL IT LIKE IT IS - AARON NEVILLE?

The theme must be "Hometown's the Same". I thought at first it was "Guest Starred on the Song" because of the REM/B-52s thing, but this works better.

1 and 5 (Athens, GA)
2 and 10 (New Orleans, LA...assuming Neville's right)
3 and 9 (Seattle, WA)
6 and 7 (Boston, MA)
I don't know either 4 or 8, but they must match up.

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT. I should have remembered that #8 was a cover of an older song! I couldn't figure out how the British Band that did it fit in, so I thought I was wrong about it!

I can't identify enough of these to come up with a theme, so I'll just answer what little I can.
7. More Than a Feeling, Boston
8. If you Don't Know Me By Now, ???
10. Tell it Like it Is, ???

The last two (8 and 10) sound like they should go together.

I know exactly one of these songs (I think):

7. So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
as clear as the sun in the summer sky -- More Then a Feeling, by Boston

I will WAG that the theme is "cities." I don't have much to go on... :(

1. Shiny Happy People - R.E.M.
2. Nope
3. Alive - Pearl Jam
4. Disco Inferno - Trammps
5. Rock Lobster - B-52s
6. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
7. More Than A Feeling - Boston
8. If You Don't Know Me By Now - I keep thinking Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, but I don't know if that's the right early 70s moderately successful soul band, so I'll go with the remake by Simply Red, which I know is right.
9. Lithium - Nirvana
10. Nope

My thinking cap is not on straight I guess because I can't come up with either a theme or pairs. I don't think it has anything to do with Year Released (three of them are from the early 90s) or genre (only see one disco song here). I'm having trouble with any word association (the only thing I see is the similarity between More Than a FEELING and Sweet EMOTION). I don't see any remakes done by an artist that has another song on here.

OK, I've spent enough time on this. I give up. I'll look at the other answers to see what I missed!

I actually had to break out the notebook to write these down, since the ones I knew didn't seem to go together at all. Halfway through listing them, the Magical Power of the Notebook came through for me!
Spoiler
1. Everyone around
Love them, love them
Put it in your hands
Take it, take it

Shiny Happy People - REM

Taking a guess on which REM song it is (I know four and this fits the lyric the best. Ha!)

2. Slipping dodging sneaking creeping hiding out down the street
See me life shakin’ with every ho’ I meet
Refried confusion is makin’ itself clear
Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here

Right Place, Wrong Time - Dr. John

Dr. John played at the All Star Game this year!

3. Oh, she walks slowly, across a young man's room
She said I'm ready...for you
I can't remember anything to this very day
'Cept the look, the look...
Oh, you know where, now I can't see, I just stare...

Something - Pearl Jam

Since it kind of has to be Pearl Jam.

4. Satisfaction came in a chain reaction - Do you hear?
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self destruct,
The heat was on, rising to the top
Everybody's goin' strong

Disco Inferno - The Trammps

Just as in lb's game, I can't remember if there are two Ms or two Ps.

5. Put on your noseguard
Put on the lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter
Here comes a stingray
There goes a manta-ray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish

Rock Lobster - B52s

6. I pulled into town in a police car
Your daddy said I took you just a little too far
Ya tellin' me things but'chor girlfriend lied
You can't catch me 'cause the rabbit done died

Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith

7. So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
as clear as the sun in the summer sky

More than a Feeling - Boston

8. We've all got our own funny moods
I've got mine, woman you've got yours too
Just trust in me like I trust in you
As long as we've been together it should be so easy to do

If You Don't Know Me By Now - Simply Red

I originally put down Harold Melvin, but I think the Trampps are British. I hope it was Simply Red, I mix up all those UK Bands from the 80's.

9. I’m so happy ’cause today
I found my friends
They’re in my head
I’m so ugly, but that’s okay
Cause so are you
Broke our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care
And I’m not scared

Lithium - Nirvana

10. If you are serious
Don’t play with my heart
It makes me furious
But if you want me to love you
Then a baby I will, girl you know that I will

Tell It Like It Is - Neville Brothers

I'll say the theme is the Right Place (if not the Wrong Time).

1-5 Athens

2-10 New Orleans

(This could also fit a mini-theme of performed at this year's All Star Game (I think Aaron Neville did the Anthem). Ha!)

3-9 Seattle

4-10 England

6-7 Boston

(Writing these down one after the other is what gave me the theme)
