QoD Weekend Game #2 06/06 – 06-09 2008
Sorry this didn’t get posted earlier. My internet access was down all last night for some reason. But it does mean I get to do some vamping, based on what I saw catching up on threads this morning!
Remember, Googling is not only legal but encouraged for weekend games. But some of the answers will be known to some of the people without help, so feel free to guess. Ten points per correct answer, and no penalty for incorrect guesses.
“Free Credit Report Dot Com Bay-Bee”
1. What are the three primary credit reporting agencies from which US consumers can order a copy of their credit report without charge, as guaranteed by federal law?
2. What would you type into the address bar of your browser in order to order a copy of your credit report from these three agencies?
3. The actual terminology is not “credit report,” but what?
4. What was the name of the first U.S. company to develop a credit scoring model based on selected criteria in credit reports?
5. What is the name of the official credit reporting agency in France?

1. What are the three primary credit reporting agencies from which US consumers can order a copy of their credit report without charge, as guaranteed by federal law?
Equifax, Experian and TransUnion
2. What would you type into the address bar of your browser in order to order a copy of your credit report from these three agencies?
www.annualcreditreport.com although it ends up looking like this: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
3. The actual terminology is not “credit report,” but what?
Got me there. Don't feel like doing a ton of digging so I will guess "Credit History".
4. What was the name of the first U.S. company to develop a credit scoring model based on selected criteria in credit reports?
Fair Isaac Corporation
5. What is the name of the official credit reporting agency in France?
What I can dig up in a quick pass suggests there is not an equivalent to US credit reporting agencies. The closest seems to be a public registry maintained by the Banque de France so I will make that my answer.

1. Equifax, Experian (formerly TRW), and TransUnion Corp
2.
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp (I actually just entered
www.annualcreditreport.com and was taken right to this url, but it's probably a good idea to type in the "https" if you intend to enter any personal data there).
3. credit file disclosure
4. Fair Isaac Corp (formerly Fair, Isaac & Co, but not when they developed the first system I don't think... which btw was for small businesses, not individuals)
5. Ooh, nasty nasty. According to PBS, there are no credit reporting agencies in France. "French banks are able to manage the risk using their own databases and statistical models to assess credit risk," says Xavier Got, an analyst with Standard & Poors in Paris.

1. What are the three primary credit reporting agencies from which US consumers can order a copy of their credit report without charge, as guaranteed by federal law?
Experian, TransUnion and Equifax
2. What would you type into the address bar of your browser in order to order a copy of your credit report from these three agencies?
annualcreditreport(dot)com, but replacing the (dot) with an actual dot. I wouldn't want them to be spammed, so....
3. The actual terminology is not “credit report,” but what?
Credit Score? Or are you looking for FICO score?
4. What was the name of the first U.S. company to develop a credit scoring model based on selected criteria in credit reports?
Fair Isaac Corporation
5. What is the name of the official credit reporting agency in France?
According to Niall McKay and Frontline, "In fact, there are no credit-reporting agencies in France. Instead, the Banque de France manages a list of those who default on their loans. Once the bill is paid, the name is removed from the list, and even if the bill is not paid, the debtors' names are removed after five years."

“Free Credit Report Dot Com Bay-Bee”
1. Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion
2. AnnualCreditReport.com
Although that seems to take you to a FAQ but which has a link to the request form. To order specifically
www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/order works better.
3. Credit file disclosure
4. Fair Isaac, Inc
5. There isn't one. Banque de France maintains a list of people who have defaulted on loans but it is not a comprehensive list. Experian operates in France but is not official.

I'm usually very good at finding things, but I cannot find this. Maybe they do not have any such official agency in France. Maybe everybody in France looks each other in the eye and says either "good citizen" or "deadbeat" (except they say it in French), and nobody needs an official paper to say so. I've never been French, so I'm not positive.
