top o' the mornin'®

Today is our district's Corps Day celebration, meaning that there's hardly anyone in the office. The only reason I'm here is to finish validation testing on the database upgrade that was done yesterday. Unfortunately I've run into a bit of a snag - to make a long story short I need a supervisor to either call or e-mail Washington to allow me access to a particular application, and, as noted above, there's no one here of supervisory level, meaning that I can't complete the testing until Monday. This will not make the users happy - they were anticipating that everything would be in place on Monday morning so they could get caught up on the work they've missed the past two days. But it can't be helped.

Doesn't one of the supervisors at the Corps Day celebration have his cell with him?

I thought that was just how the government works. Seems pretty typical to me anyway.

Probably, but although the office has an "official" cell phone, only my boss (the chief) would carry it, and he's not at the Corps Day celebration - he's on vacation.

Yup. Someone's about a quart low.
