Getting married, that is :)

I do NOT have time to do a blog, but will give details as I can.

August 23 -- and I put a wedding (my first one) together in 3 weeks, so 3 months should be doable! Of course, my first husband's auntie was the caterer for that one.

Congratulations to you, too! But three MONTHS!? I suppose, if the date was available for all vendors, we could have done it. The major decisions were really completed in less than two. But it was a very busy two.

Good luck with the gown, if you're getting new and not recycling yours or another family heirloom, or if she's wearing a gown and not just a nice dress. They take a while to get from the maker if you have to order special. Or even your size.

My wife and I got engaged in early April 1998 and were married June 27, 1998.

There's no good reason why a wedding cannot be planned and accomplished in 2 1/2 months (unless the location is unavailable).

Yay! Weddings are fun to plan/do. I've done several for various cousins, etc., and it can be done simply and nicely in a matter of months. I can whip out a wedding cake in two days, if I have to.

No, Karen is our youngest -- her birthday is Aug. 13. She & John are the parents of the little guy in my avatar (5 months old today :) )

I would hope so.

Karen and John have been living together for 30 years and have three kids.

Oh, wait. This is some other Karen and John. Not my aunt and uncle. I was pretty sure they got married back in the 70s.

Never mind.

Congratulations to this Karen and John.

Hee hee -- well, they are fairly common names! Would it have been better if I'd titled the thread, "So are Care-Bear and Fat Boi Fresh!"?

Well, God bless Kay for considering a House Wedding -- ours is just WAY too small for such things. Karen thought of an outdoor ceremony/reception but doesn't trust the weather & we couldn't get a park shelter on such short notice.

One venue would have been rather fun & funky -- an art gallery/theater in an old brewery -- but the only Saturday they could do in August was the 9th. Sadly, one year ago on that date, a young & much-loved member of our extended family was tragically killed (on her 19th birthday, no less  ) so that's one day that's definitely out of the question! So we're going with a very nice Firemen's Banquet Hall, where my stepson had his wedding last spring. (That stepson, BTW, is the stepfather of the young girl who died a few months later.)

Anyhow, the 23rd it is :) And we got a good deal on the price -- yay! We need to work with their caterers, but that's fine. tlynn78, I may take you up on that 2-day cake offer! But how would we get it here from Montana? LOL Well, our Leah has ambitions to be a Wedding Planner -- in fact, she did a mock Wedding Planner Business for her graduation project for her business degree. So now she gets to do it for real. And we and the kids have plenty of wonderful creative folks in our circle of friends so we'll manage a cake! Since K&J are in the music biz, they have contacts to do the music -- photos, too, probably (and if their choice of photographer can't do that day, a good friend of mine is lined up.)

The Minister will be Keith's cousin Wilmer, aka "Poochie!" Now, a few weeks ago, I mentioned that a cousin was currently undergoing radiation treatment in my department for thyroid cancer? Well, that's Poochie. But he's doing great & his prognosis is good -- so God willing his health allows it, he wants to marry his little cousin! Hey, does that sound like we should be in West Virginia instead of PA?? Poochie, BTW, has been riding his Harley to the hospital most days -- maybe he'll ride it to the wedding too?? Oh, also, he's 68 years old, but looks 15 years younger. And Poochie's dad, Uncle Wilmer, also a minister, is slowing down some but still going pretty strong at age 94!!! Hey, maybe they could concelebrate? We've seen them do that at so many family funerals over the years -- wouldn't it be great to do it at a wedding?

Oh, about the dress? Probably bad luck to show it, since we haven't actually gotten it yet (ordering online next week) -- but here's a quick peek for those who can't resist: Front and Back

Since Leah, among her many other cool qualities, is a seamstress -- she just finished making a gorgeous dress tonight as a 21st birthday gift to her best friend -- she believes she can handle any needed alterations. Karen wants flowers in her hair rather than a veil, so that's pretty easy.

Wow -- did I say I didn't have time to blog? I guess I've done it all at once! But more details will follow as they fall into place & time permits.

Oh, here's the happy couple (and son!)
Image

And we're not losing sight of the fact that, unlike Natalie & her intended -- they actually are a couple of kids -- only 19! But they are committed to each other & to John-Angelo, & to building a good life together. And they're one of those couples who just seem so good for each other, if you can understand what I mean. They really do bring out each others best (from my lips to God's ear! and knock on wood, too :) ) We're pretty proud of them both.

Oh, I tried to post a photo of the wedding hall before but it didn't take. Trying again:

Pretty nice for a Fire Hall!

Wow, you've got a great handle on things already! Best of luck to you, and if you decide to move closer to Montana, or I decide to move closer to your neck of the woods before the wedding, I'll be glad to do the cake. (Tip: decorate it with fresh flowers - quick, easy and beautiful, and will match the bride)
