Geez, they are having a problem with the animals...hmm, their native habitat...not ours. What's the problem?

"We have a danger problem with animals that we're trying to figure out how to handle," the "Survivor" host said. "There's so much truly wild life out there, we're not sure what to do. We don't want the animals around for a safety reasons, but we'd love to have a hippo sneak in every so often. I just got a call from our executive producer that we've got hippo tracks at base camp."
Sheesh! The game is called Survivor, isn't it?

Why shouldn't they have to deal with the occasional lion or hippo, instead of the conveniently appearing wild piglet?

You know hippos kill more humans every year in Africa than alligators/crocodiles do.

This could add so much to the formation of alliances. Nevermind if you can count of someone to support you at tribal council, can you rely on them during a hippo attack?

Or, for the backstabbers of the bunch, there's the old saying, "I don't have to be faster than the lion, I just have to be faster than you."

Well, considerably more than alligators. I don't think alligators have killed anyone outside the U.S. and China for quite some time.

I think buffalo might even kill more people in Africa than crocodiles.

Checked that. Probably not.

You Rang? <G>

How many do Hippos kill. I have anecdotal evidence (Capstick) of 10 per day by crocs in the 1970's

I think crocs kill more-based on

1)Croc victims tend to disappear.

2)Hippos being found in more concentrated (and less) locations. They are more vulnerable to concentrated hunting (bush meat) and so forth. I have read about bands of Sudanese poachers wiping out large game in portions of neighboring countries. I bet hippo range has contracted more than Croc range.

It wouldn't surprise me if mosquitos kill more than hippos, buffalo and crocs combined in Africa.

Malaria is a bitch...

It is probably hard to find solid data but several sites still suggest that hippos kill more than crocs. Hippos are quiet territorial and attack small boats by "sneak attack" when they wander into their territory. In addition hippos trample people who get between them and the safety of the water.
