#20. "Really Don't Care" - Demi Lovato ft. Cher Lloyd (2014)

Of the eight or so CD's of the Mecca CD era, the set that takes me back the most was the fifth hour of the 2014 Summer CD... lunch on the Lawn & Garden patio. Oddly enough, only one of those songs made this countdown, and that's this power pop anthem by the same singer who did one of the most god-awful Mecca earworms in "Give Your Heart a Break." Here we have another children's TV icon (Barney, Camp Rock) trying to shed their wholesome image after coming of age, and this one is awesome! And the Cher Lloyd part isn't bad, either...

#19. "Bang!" - AJR (2020)

AJR is a trio of brothers (the letters stand for their first names) who had a run of hits in the past decade despite me having never heard of them before. This was one of them, a #8 Hot 100 hit and frequent earworm on Mecca Radio a couple years ago. I didn't think much of it during that time, but it got played again out of nowhere just before I compiled this countdown last Fall, and absence apparently really does make the heart grow fonder. The voice saying "Here we go!" is Charlie Pellett, who voices announcements made in the New York City subway...

#18. "eBay" - Weird Al Yankovic (2003)

2003's Poodle Hat is probably the dark horse of Weird Al albums. None of the parody songs have an official music video, it was a commercial bomb..... and yet, I honestly think only In 3D can compare to it in the quality of those parodies. This song does what Weird Al does best... unmercilessly mock and satirize a certain segment of American pop culture to the tune of a then-recent hit song. This song got played a lot of Mecca Radio in the mid 2000's, and was what really got me into checking out a lot of Weird Al's other stuff that wasn't a hit or on MTV back in the 80's...

#17. "DONE." - The Band Perry (2013)

The Mecca CD compilers were good at including songs that were still brand new before shipping them out to thousands of locations across the nation, and this is another example, appearing on the Fall 2013 CD months after it first came out. If this is considered country music, then sign me up for some line dancing! Of course, there is one country song that ranks higher than this one to come.......

#16. "Better Now" - Collective Soul (2005)

Collective Soul is one of the few 90's bands from the mid-90's genero-rock era that I actually liked. But their best was yet to come, and wow! I love this song! And it does not sound anything like what Collective Soul sounded like during the Clinton Administration. Thank you, Mecca Radio, for making this an earworm in the late 10's, or I may have never found this piece of ear candy...
