The day before, Italian skier Federica Brignone, just recovered from a devastating injury, took the lead in the Super G. Then she watched as skier after skier, including leading contenders for a medal, were slower or failed to complete the course. A glorious victory for the home team!
A gold medal for Kazakhstan was not on my Olympics bingo card.
