I like how the Fern forecast suddenly becomes a winter storm watch when it hits New Hampshire.

Well, we've seen the two obligatory shots of people sledding down the Art Museum steps.

We will likely finish up with about 9 inches of snow.

Snow, then freezing rain, then more snow, now more freezing rain.

Does not appear to be enough to build up on power lines and tree limbs.

A friend in Oxford, MS, just missed a big tree limb crashing onto her car.

That is all.

I saw the pics of northern Mississippi -- it looks a lot like we did in 2009, when we were frozen out of our house for a week.

Meanwhile, we just got a fluffy. 10.5 inches of powder snow, and we're wearing comfy clothes and laughing at people out attempting to clear their drives and sidewalks. And feeling sorry for the dog owners. There but for the grace of God, etc.

Same company I’ve worked for since Oct 2018.

Our power went out at 3:00 AM this morning. Then back on around 5:00 then off again at 6:00. It came back aroung 9:00. Nothing long enough to be concerned about other than the slight loss of sleep for the off/on/off/on/off.

We here in SE Mass ended up with about a foot of fluffy, drifting snow. No power lost.

One of the biggest problems we have in Georgia whenever there' s a wind or ice storm is tree branches falling on power lines. We didn't have that here, but I haven't heard anything from Flock, who's in the next county over, so I hope he's okay as well.

The usual rule-of-thumb about winter storms in Atlanta is the bigger fuss people make, the less disruption that tends to happen. The local TV stations have been carrying on since about Wednesday, acting like this storm was the beginning of World War III. Of course, this means that the next time there's an alert, people will downplay or pooh-pooh it and then get caught flatfooted.

No power interruptions where I live in NE Atlanta. Main roads seem to be all clear. Just COOOOLLLLLDDD. (Well, relatively for us.)

We're going to have highs in the 70s today.

Back in oh, late 70's, maybe early 80's, my f-i-l had to abandon his car just off the Ga Tech campus and walk out to his home in Tucker, for maybe 1.5 inches of snow...

That would have been 1982. I was working for the Georgia Insurance Department at that time, before I met Mrs. SSS. I usually took the bus into work, but for some reason I drove that day. Bad move. I got snowed in and couldn't get my car out of the parking lot. Fortunately(??), I got a ride from one of our actuaries, who had a car that could maneuver around in that weather. Unfortunately, he was a functioning alcoholic, who insisted we stop at the only bar that was open on the way, which happened to be a strip club. He apparently was a regular there, because all the dancers knew him. I kept trying to get him out of there while he was still sober enough to drive, but he insisted on staying for one more dance... and another... and another. A very memorable day.

In Atlanta, when we get snow, usually one of two things happens. Either it starts snowing at night, and by morning everyone knows enough to stay home until the weather improves, or it starts snowing during the day while it's still warm enough so that the ice doesn't stick until after the evening rush hour. But in 1982, we had some bitter recordbreaking sub-zero weather two or three days earlier, and the ground was still frozen three days later when the snow came so it stuck from the first snowflake. We had a similar disaster in 2014, and they closed where I was working early, but I didn't think the snow was that bad, so I caught up on some of my work for a half hour or so before leaving. Big mistake again. I had to pull in about a mile down the road in a Quickie-mart strip center because I was running low on gas an hour later and then walk the 4 1/2 miles home from there.

It's now looking like we may have an inch or so of snow this weekend. Unlike last weekend, the storm will be coming from the east, not the west, so Flock will probably get hit harder than I will. However, since it's the weekend, and there's no freezing rain involved (hopefully), disruptions should be minimal.

I read that Savannah is expecting snow with lows in the low 20s on Saturday!
