Jane Goodall Dies at 91 While on Speaking Tour
She Was a 'Tireless Advocate' for Nature

Dr. Jane Goodall, the renowned conservationist and animal welfare advocate who became the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees after spending decades studying them in the wild in Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park has died. She was 91.

According to a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from her eponymous institute, she died of natural causes while on a speaking tour in California.

Named as UN Messenger of Peace in 2002, Goodall also worked for decades to protect chimpanzees from extinction, becoming one of the most beloved figures the world has ever known.

Netflix has a new series entitled Famous Last Words, which is a series of interviews with aging celebrities to be released only after their deaths. The first such interview is with Jane Goodall, and is now available on the service. The interview was conducted earlier this year by Brad Falchuk, Emmy-winning writer and co-creator with Ryan Murphy of series like Glee and American Horror Story. The one-hour interview was conducted completely in private using automatic recording devices, with only Falchuk (who later edited the footage to fit into a one-hour time frame) and Goodall present. No word from Netflix on how many other such interviews they have completed, who the subjects are, (or, obviously, when any future interviews will be released).
