How are you doing?
I'm still having my problems. My colon and prostate cancers seem to be under control, but my biggest problem now is that I have internal bleeding, and they can't discover the source. During my last hospitalization, I swallowed a capsule that had a tiny camera inside that took pictures on the way down. Neither it nor the endoscopy found the source of the bleeding. I've got another colonoscopy in two weeks that will hopefully have better results. The problem with the bleeding is that I need to have another stent because the ones they put in 25 years ago have worn out. But to do that, I'll have to go on blood thinners, and the last time I did that, I wound up in the hospital a week later. They did an out-patient procedure that ran a needle into my heart that essentially cleared out some space there which will lessen my risk of a heart attack for now. My iron levels are still low, and I'm getting IV iron transfusions again starting next week (I had those when I was in the hospital as well).
Mrs. SSS is in worse shape. She's in the late stages of Alzheimers, but she's been very active until recently, walking all over the place in her memory care home. However, she didn't appreciate the fall risk, so she moved too fast and had several falls. In the last month, she broke two ribs and punctured her lung, which resulted in a week-long hospitalization. She also had another fall that required stitches in the back of her head, and more recently she fractured her femur. The break is near the top of the leg, so they can't put a brace or splint on it, and they're reduced to keeping an eye on her and trying to keep her comfortable. She's also lost a lot of weight, because she's forgotten the mechanics of how to get food from the plate to her mouth, so someone has to feed her at every meal. It's probably only a few months at this stage.
