Dead at 97. Musical Satirist and Mathematics Professor.. This hits me hard. My parents had his albums and even as a kid I loved them. Fun fact - in fourth grade I took That Was The Year That Was into school for show and tell and Mrs. Nerz let me play all of side one but for some reason made me stop after the song "Smut." He was one of my first exposures to satire and dark humor and was one of the bedrocks that my sense of humor was built on. You may decide for yourself if that is a good thing or not.

I just posted this on Facebook:
I don't usually note celebrity deaths, but I can't let the passing of Tom Lehrer go without a mention. Pam introduced me to his songs early in our relationship, and I was hooked for life.
Pam and I performed several of his songs at a musical event in the 80s - including 'The Vatican Rag' and 'Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.' And 'The Masochism Tango' was the audition song that got me the role of King Herod in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' - a song I also performed at the Musicale at the Scrabble Players Championship several years ago.
Mostly, though, Tom Lehrer makes me think of Pam. Because we were a weird couple.

I remember the Vatican Rag. Also National Brotherhood Week, Who’s Next, the World War III song and the MLF Lullaby. I still remember a lot of the lyrics.
