In a show of class befitting the Big Apple, the New York Knicks have fired head coach Tom Thibodeau less than a week after the team's most successful NBA playoff run since 2000. The team beat Detroit and a heavily favored Boston Celtics team before losing to Indiana in the conference finals in six games. Thibodeau won 24 playoff games in his five seasons with the Knicks, 17 more than the team's previous 13 coaches combined.

Wow. Was any reason given, other than he didn't win it all?

Apparently, firing coaches for nearly winning it all isn't limited to the NBA. The Dallas Stars fired head coach Pete De Boer yesterday after reaching the Western Conference final all three of the years he coached the team, losing for the second season in a row to Edmonton last week. (The year before De Boer arrived, the team lost in the first round of the playoffs.) If this trend continues, you're likely to see about 29 or more head-coaching changes each season in professional sports.
