Knicks Fire Coach Tom Thibodeau
In a show of class befitting the Big Apple, the New York Knicks have fired head coach Tom Thibodeau less than a week after the team's most successful NBA playoff run since 2000. The team beat Detroit and a heavily favored Boston Celtics team before losing to Indiana in the conference finals in six games. Thibodeau won 24 playoff games in his five seasons with the Knicks, 17 more than the team's previous 13 coaches combined.

Wow. Was any reason given, other than he didn't win it all?silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 3:17 pmIn a show of class befitting the Big Apple, the New York Knicks have fired head coach Tom Thibodeau less than a week after the team's most successful NBA playoff run since 2000. ..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

That's the complete statement. --BobKnicks President Leon Rose wrote:Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans. This pursuit led us to the difficult decision to inform Tom Thibodeau that we've decided to move in another direction. We can't thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach. He led us not only with class and professionalism for the past five seasons, but also to tremendous success on the court with four playoff berths and four playoff series victories. Ultimately, we made the decision we feel is best for our organization moving forward. Tom will always be a part of our Knicks family and we truly wish him nothing but the best in the future.

Apparently, firing coaches for nearly winning it all isn't limited to the NBA. The Dallas Stars fired head coach Pete De Boer yesterday after reaching the Western Conference final all three of the years he coached the team, losing for the second season in a row to Edmonton last week. (The year before De Boer arrived, the team lost in the first round of the playoffs.) If this trend continues, you're likely to see about 29 or more head-coaching changes each season in professional sports.

Really? You think a team that requires more than 4 (or maybe 5) games to win a best-of-7 finals series is safe? --Bobsilverscreenselect wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 9:31 amApparently, firing coaches for nearly winning it all isn't limited to the NBA.
