My mouth agrees. In 1988 I was playing shortstop in a men's league and took a bad hop to the mouth. I must have curled my lower lip over my bottom teeth (as a concentration tic). One of my teeth went completely through the skin just below the lip. Lots and lots of blood. I played on. My shirt was mess.

Once I was playing "500" with friends. The "softball" clipped the top of somebody's glove and caught me right in the choppers. Extreme pain and I still can't believe that I didn't lose my front 2 teeth.

Nolan played on, too.

That's pretty close to how I looked.

Nolan and i have a lot of things in common...well... a few anyway. Besides getting hit in the mouth with a ball, and raised in Texas, the OB doctor that delivered all four of my kids is one of his best friends. They went to Jr College together and Nolan visits him each year to pheasant hunt on the Dr.'s ranch (in Kansas).

Oklahoma was beaten 3-2 by Texas Tech in the WCWS semi-final. Trailing 2-0, they tied the game with a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh inning (the final inning in a regulation women's softball game). Texas Tech then won the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, and will face Texas in a best-of-three final.

What's really amazing is that the Texas Tech pitcher in the WCWS, NiJaree Canady, who transferred last season from Stanford (after signing a $1M NIL contract), has pitched every inning in the three games Tech has played in the WCWS and will probably pitch every inning in the championship series. She had only given up one run in the series before the two-run homer that tied the Oklahoma game. In this level of women's softball, it's not uncommon for one pitcher to throw the vast majority of innings in an important series, because the pitching motion doesn't tire out the throwing arm the same way a baseball pitcher gets tired throwing overhand.

Nija Canady is very intimidating in the circle. She is tall, solid and throws hard. Plus, she wears a face cage and dances around after every strikeout. All she needs to be untouchable is a Nolan Ryan moment like we see earlier in this thread.

Don't forget that that game-tying homer was hit by the least likely starter on the team -- the ninth place hitter (or was it 10th?) who had only two homeruns all season before this game.

Texas jumps all over the aforementioned NiJaree Canady for five runs in the first inning, en route to a 10-4 win in the national title game.
