Harrison Ruffin Tyler, the last living grandson of President John Tyler, passed away last weekend at the age of 96. President Tyler was 62 when his son Leon was born, and Leon was 75 when Harrison was born. --Bob

To put it in perspective, Dwight Eisenhower's grandson David is now 77. John Tyler was born 100 years before Ike.

Looks like I've been around a lot longer than people think...

In an earlier post about Tyler, a BB listed presidents whose overlapping lifespans covered the history of the republic. I can’t find it now (maybe it was on an earlier incarnation of the Bored). It looked like this:
John Quincy Adams (1767-1848)
Cleveland (1837-1908)
Truman (1884-1972)
Obama (born 1961)
I prefer to make a chain of presidents who encountered one another, rather than just occupying the planet at the same time.
William Henry Harrison was born in 1773. When he died in 1841, his grandson Benjamin Harrison was seven years old.
Theodore Roosevelt served in the Harrison administration. They first met in 1889.
The Roosevelts in 1915 (in between them is lawyer W.H. Van Benschoten).
Kennedy visited the White House when his father served in the Roosevelt administration.
Letters describing their encounter

The Harrisons are related to both my adoptive mother and my biological father.
