The College Football Playoff Executive Board unanimously approved a change for seeding in 2025. The teams will be seeded exclusively by ranking, so conference champions are no longer assured of getting a Top 4 seed and first round bye. The ACC, Big 10, Big 12, and SEC champions will still get automatic bids, as will the top ranked champion from the Group of 5. Notre Dame will also be eligible for a first round bye if it is ranked high enough.
The NFL tabled a similar proposed rule change for this season.

Notre Dame should NEVER get a first round bye as they essentially gets one by not having to pay a conference championship game.silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 4:07 pmThe College Football Playoff Executive Board unanimously approved a change for seeding in 2025. ..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.
