The Bored index screen took extra long to appear. And this was written at the bottom ...

In total there are 1581 users online :: 1 registered, 0 hidden and 1580 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 6685 on Sun May 11, 2025 11:49 am

I had noted the high guest numbers over the weekend as well and mentioned it to Vandal when he emailed me about the Bored being down. And it looks like there are still 500 or so guests now... and I'm pretty sure those are bots or zombie devices.

There are 25 guests now, which is about the usual number I see when I log in. Whatever caused the mass visitation seems to have moved on.

You must've checked during a potty break...

I mentioned it over in the Ark (Facebook) but for the sake of visibility, I'll repeat it here.

The Bored was bombarded in recent days by nearly 900K hits originating from Vietnam, and another 60K or so from Indonesia, according to my web host.

Not sure what got their attention suddenly like that, but whatever network of spam bots it was, they appear to have moved on, and so the Bored is operating normally again.

Turns out that blocking requests from specific countries is a little more involved than I had hoped, but I'll work on it. Have someone ping me over on the Ark if it starts doing that again.

At least, now I know not to move to Vietnam or Indonesia.
