All I want is a modest game

A quiet game, a gentle game

A straightforward and honest game

I studied Latin many years ago (it was a dead language even then - I’m not that old). I thought maybe the plural should be anna. Looking it up, I see the Latin word is annus, and annum is the form used when it’s the object of a sentence. The plural is anni, or annos when it’s an object.

I’ve never encountered anni, annos or annums in English.

I’ve never seen annum used other than “per annum”. I just wanted a fancy way to say “year.”

Despite what the music man says, I don’t want a plain game.

I’ve also seen “annus horribilis” and “Anno Domini” (or “Anno Mundi” in some Jewish texts). Same word with different case suffixes.

“Annus horribilis” will be most BBs reaction to the new Y2K+ Bonus.

I am that old, and Latin never dies!

Veni! Vidi! Vici! Annus Horribilis!
