I assume that you are widely read in the Tolkien universe, not only books by him but also books about it and so forth.
You may, or may not have, missed this one.
I am currently reading "Ents, Elves, and Eriador: the Environmental Vision of J.R.R. Tolkein."
I find it very interesting so far and I am not widely read in Tolkien. Never read the Hobbit and I would not think of tackling "The Slrmallion(sp).

I'm familiar with it. There have been other books that have touched on Tolkien's "proto-environmemtalism", most of them discussing his upbringing in the English countryside and his experiences with the devastation of World War I.
