Lyrically Speaking - 2/18/25

Bands by number of members Tuesday (or something like that) is up to number five, so it's time to roll out the quintets! This is where things start getting a little hairy, as bands of this size tend to undergo a number of lineup changes, sometimes adding or subtracting their number of members in the process (I'm looking at YOU, Beach Boys). So at the very least, I think I can say these groups were all at least quintets for some time, and their best known roster had five members.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear

2. All the dreams were held so close
Seemed to all go up in smoke

3. If you got hunger for what you see, you'll take it eventually
You can have everything you want but you better not take it from me

4. You see the world through your cynical eyes
You're a troubled young man I can tell

5. I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

6. I must be losin' it
'Cause my mind plays tricks on me
It looked so easy
But you know looks sometimes deceive

7. Now here I go again
I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself

8. Oh, what do you think about that?
Now you know how I feel
Say you can handle my love, are you for real?

9. I see your face every time I dream
On every page, every magazine
So wild and free, so far from me
You're all I want, my fantasy

10. Now, I can see that we've fallen apart
From the way that it used to be, yeah
No matter the distance
I want you to know
That deep down inside of me

11. I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

12. Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike

Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon

Fanny Fun Fact: Named after the Oldsmobile of the same name, which was named after Ransom E. Olds. Personal Fanny Fun Fact: The longest my mother was in labour was with me (16 minutes). She had no labour with my brother, her first contraction was named Craig. They just went to the hospital because she was 'feeling funny' and the doctor knew her reputation. There was brief thought given to naming him Ransom, as he was almost born in a 1954 Olds Holiday.

5. I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

Back in Black - AC/DC

Re: your comment on the last game, they did mean to spell it that way. They got the name off of the Young brothers' sisters' sewing machine and had no idea of the other meaning.

6. I must be losin' it
'Cause my mind plays tricks on me
It looked so easy
But you know looks sometimes deceive

7. Now here I go again
I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself

Dreams - Fleetwood Mac

8. Oh, what do you think about that?
Now you know how I feel
Say you can handle my love, are you for real?

Wannabe - Spice Girls

9. I see your face every time I dream
On every page, every magazine
So wild and free, so far from me
You're all I want, my fantasy

Photograph - Def Leppard

10. Now, I can see that we've fallen apart
From the way that it used to be, yeah
No matter the distance
I want you to know
That deep down inside of me

I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys

11. I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

Dream On - Aerosmith

12. Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike

Cool It Now - New Edition

Woo!!!!!!!11

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist by a group that had five members.

What, no Bon Jovi? Well, let's just rectify that...

I'll Be There for You - Bon Jovi

Image Bonus: Gimme five!

Hope I don't get docked for not having them portrayed by cats (although think I didn't look for one!

1. I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear
I Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon (Their two biggest and most enduring hits were two of the most pussified rock ballads of the 80's, and two songs that in no way, shape or form defined REO's sound. Such a shame....)

2. All the dreams were held so close
Seemed to all go up in smoke
Angie - Rolling Stones (Talk about a song I'd completely forgotten about... I probably heard this a million times on the 70's radio station back in the day, but hadn't thought of it in forever.)

3. If you got hunger for what you see, you'll take it eventually
You can have everything you want but you better not take it from me
Welcome To The Jungle - Guns N Roses (The teacher of our (cough, hack) gifted class in 8th grade once tasked us with designing a video that would give graduating 6th graders a look at what junior high was like, and my group chose this as our theme song. It was all just a thought exercise, though, we never did get to make it...)

4. You see the world through your cynical eyes
You're a troubled young man I can tell
Fooling Yourself (The Parenthetic Title Is Actually Better, But We Won't Go There) - Styx

5. I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild
Back In Black - Sewing Machine (Also known as AC/DC)

6. I must be losin' it
'Cause my mind plays tricks on me
It looked so easy
But you know looks sometimes deceive
Head Over Heels - Go Go's (The three most popular female groups of the 80's were a trio, a quartet and a quintet... and I made sure to hit them all)

7. Now here I go again
I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
Dreams - Fleetwood Mac (And in a week where Bob's been absent....)

8. Oh, what do you think about that?
Now you know how I feel
Say you can handle my love, are you for real?
Wannabe - Spice Girls

9. I see your face every time I dream
On every page, every magazine
So wild and free, so far from me
You're all I want, my fantasy
Photograph - Def Leppard (What has nine arms and rocks?)

10. Now, I can see that we've fallen apart
From the way that it used to be, yeah
No matter the distance
I want you to know
That deep down inside of me
I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys

11. I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win
Dream On - Aerosmith

12. Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike
Cool It Now - New Edition (All of whom went on to bigger and brighter careers than the one who rapped that line...)

Image Bonus: Gimme five!

This was a fun one, because it reminded me so much of what hooked me on keeping the Image Bonus the year I first experimented with it. So many fun and unique references to five! Sprots may be stinking up the joint, but her critters won my heart over, so she gets the IBB! And each and every one of those cuties better get scritches...

Thanks for the IBB, much appreciated.

But you want me to give scritches to a polar bear??????????? Or a beaver? Beavers can knock a tree down in a matter of minutes, can you imagine what they could do to a tibia??????????

i prefer my limbs intact, thank you . . .
