Commissioner of baseball from 1989 to 1992, whose term was memorable for his imposing the lifetime ban on New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and former player Steve Howe (both were later reinstated) and postponing then working to resume the 1989 World Series that was delayed because of an earthquake in the SF Bay area. Ironically, Vincent took over as Commissioner only one month before the World Series when his predecessor, Bart Giamatti (father of actor Paul Giamatti), died after only a few months as Commissioner. During his tenure, MLB expanded to 28 teams with the addition of the Colorado Rockies and Florida/Miami Marlins (although both started playing in 1993, after Vincent's resignation).
