Lyrically Speaking - 2/3/25

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Feb 03, 2025 7:35 am

Sesame Street Monday gives us the letter D today. Odd numbered songs have titles starting with D, and even numbered songs have artists starting with D. Dig?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Never do more than I really need
My mind is racing, but my body's in the lead

2. Why don't you use it?
Try not to bruise it
Buy time don't lose it

3. Folks are screaming, out of control
It was so entertaining when the boogie started to explode
I heard somebody say

4. Now I'm gonna love you
Til the heavens stop the rain
I'm gonna love you
Til the stars fall from the sky
For you and I

5. Give me the ring on your finger
Let me see the lines on your hand
I can see me a tall dark stranger
Giving you what you hadn't planned

6. You'll say, the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
Still, I know you just don't care

7. Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever, but the Earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy

8. Skeeters started buzzin' 'bout this time a-year
I'm goin' 'round back, said she'd meet me there
We were rollin' in the grass grows behind the barn
When my ears started ringin' like a fire alarm

9. Lover, I'm off the streets
Gonna go where the bright lights
And the big city meet
With a red guitar, on fire

10. Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

11. Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while

12. Now he smokes too much
He's got a permanent hack
Deals dope out of Denny's
Keeps a table in the back

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with a title or artist that begins with the letter D (5 points if both begin with D).

Sesame Street Monday gives us the letter D today. Odd numbered songs have titles starting with D, and even numbered songs have artists starting with D. Dig?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Never do more than I really need
My mind is racing, but my body's in the lead

I heard somebody say

Disco Inferno - The Trammmpppsss

Burn, baby, burn isn't a really great phrase right about now. I feel sorry for people losing their shit, but those big houses are insured up the ass and it will be us broke little fuckers that end up paying for it, my house insurance was fucking insane last year, almost three months of income for me!

Reflex, Duran Duran

3. Folks are screaming, out of control
It was so entertaining when the boogie started to explode
I heard somebody say

4. Now I'm gonna love you
Til the heavens stop the rain
I'm gonna love you
Til the stars fall from the sky
For you and I

Touch Me, Doors

5. Give me the ring on your finger
Let me see the lines on your hand
I can see me a tall dark stranger
Giving you what you hadn't planned

Devil Woman, Marty Robbins

6. You'll say, the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
Still, I know you just don't care

Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dumpling

7. Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever, but the Earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy

8. Skeeters started buzzin' 'bout this time a-year
I'm goin' 'round back, said she'd meet me there
We were rollin' in the grass grows behind the barn
When my ears started ringin' like a fire alarm

9. Lover, I'm off the streets
Gonna go where the bright lights
And the big city meet
With a red guitar, on fire

10. Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

11. Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while

Down on the Corner, CCR

12. Now he smokes too much
He's got a permanent hack
Deals dope out of Denny's
Keeps a table in the back

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with a title or artist that begins with the letter D (5 points if both begin with D).

Don't let that sun go down, Dan Fogelberg

Earl will be happy to know that Dikembe got her the IBB. YAY for early 90's basketball players that I actually know....

JJC Points:

Krox gets 2 JJC points for making me look up a Stranger Things reference (I thought that's what it was by the font)...

Panic gets a JJC point for a drivin' dawg...

BiT gets a JJC point for a big flying elephant...

jarnon gets a JJC point for annoying superheroes (The first time I'd ever heard of Deadpool was about a decade ago when a fellow blogger posted images of her Lego figurine that was Deadpool in a pig costume that she named Pigpool)....

Weasel gets 2 JJC points for nerding out with Fin Diesel...

mrk gets 2 JJC points for knowing stupid 80's songs by bands that start with D must be Depeche Mode...

ear gets 2 JJC points for a Dastardly Dick...

Hottie gets a JJC point for doing the Trammpps thing...

elwood gets 2 JJC points for Duck Season (I was going to say we needed a W game to complete things, but I don't think Daffy messed up his R's like Elmer did)....

melly gets 3 JJC points, not for the dachshund (which is an annoying dog), but for Dominick the Donkey, one of the few Christmas songs I like....

mikeh gets 2 JJC points for a horribly dressed disco duck....

Speaking of horribly dressed, Search gets 2 JJC points for Dee-lite...

Earl gets a supermax for Dikembe (RIP) and a cat whose coloring reminds me of Miss Gypsy who was a regular at my front door from 2018-19....

Image

Sprots also gets a supermax for fondly remembering Deliquescing Sprots....

Image

frank gets 2 JJC points for telling us how dumb Dora was...

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for the good doctor...

Bob gets a JJC point for blatantly copying off of Vandal's paper...

Yay for Deke! I tried to find a gif of him doing the finger in a Nuggets uni, but had to settle for the Rockets. I'm glad it was enough to do the job because I was almost going to go with my backup plan of the famous pic of the 1994 Round One upset but didn't know how steeped you were in the history.

Also, I remember that cat, she was glorious (didn't I want you to name her Milkshake?)

That was in my sports heyday, and I would have recognized it (wasn't it over the Okla... er, Seattle Supersonics?)

I can't remember if you came up with a name for her or not, but Gypsy stuck. She hung around for a year before she disappeared... one of a long string of cats my jerkwad neighbors have had that all usually end up at my door looking for food.
