Lyrically Speaking - 1/29/25

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Wed Jan 29, 2025 7:23 am

The first Wild Wednesday game of the 2025 LSWE will focus on the animal that has been a pain in my ass for the past fifteen-plus years.... cats! Don't worry, Ody's not going to exact any revenge for me saying that because he doesn't care what I think anyway. All of the songs below bring to mind felines in either the title or artist...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. My son turned ten just the other day
He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play

2. Razzle 'n' a dazzle 'n' a flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night

3. Face to face, out on the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds still we take to the street
For the kill, with the skill to survive

4. You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little.... !!!!

5. They will vanish away like your daddy's best jeans
Denim Blue fading up to the sky
And though you want him to last forever
You know he never will

6. I don't bother chasing mice around

7. There's still so much for me to do
And I can't stop loving you
Oh, can this be true?

8. She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears

9. Well I don't know where they come from
But they sure do come
I hope they're comin' for me
And I don't know how they do it
But they sure do it good
I hope they're doin' it for free

10. When I was a young boy
Said put away those young boy ways
Now that I'm gettin' older, so much older
I long for those young boy days

11. Yeah, I was just thirteen, you might say I was a
Musical proverbial knee-high
When I heard a couple new-sounding tunes on the tubes
And they blasted me sky-high

12. 'Cause you were born into this evil world
Where man is killing man and no one knows just why
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again

I’ll confess. My first thought was “Lionize” by the Eagles, but that’s bad even by my low standards. I’ll go with The Lion Sleeps Tonight - Tokens.

Spoiler
The first Wild Wednesday game of the 2025 LSWE will focus on the animal that has been a pain in my ass for the past fifteen-plus years.... cats! Don't worry, Ody's not going to exact any revenge for me saying that because he doesn't care what I think anyway. All of the songs below bring to mind felines in either the title or artist...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. My son turned ten just the other day
He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play

"Cats in the Cradle" - Harry Chapin

2. Razzle 'n' a dazzle 'n' a flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night

"Pour Some Sugar On Me" - Def Leppard

3. Face to face, out on the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds still we take to the street
For the kill, with the skill to survive

"Eye of the Tiger" - Survivor

4. You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little.... !!!!

"What's New, Pussycat?" - Tom Jones

5. They will vanish away like your daddy's best jeans
Denim Blue fading up to the sky
And though you want him to last forever
You know he never will

6. I don't bother chasing mice around

"Stray Cat Strut" - Stray Cats

7. There's still so much for me to do
And I can't stop loving you
Oh, can this be true?

8. She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears

9. Well I don't know where they come from
But they sure do come
I hope they're comin' for me
And I don't know how they do it
But they sure do it good
I hope they're doin' it for free

10. When I was a young boy
Said put away those young boy ways
Now that I'm gettin' older, so much older
I long for those young boy days

"Hurt So Good" - John Cougar Mellencamp

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist where either has a feline vibe.

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" - The Tokens

Image Bonus: Meow!

1. My son turned ten just the other day
He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play
The Cat's in the Cradle - Harry Chapin (No, he didn't turn out just like you. He's taking care of his kids who have the flu, so he doesn't have time to visit his dad who was too busy jetsetting the world while he grew up...)

2. Razzle 'n' a dazzle 'n' a flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night
Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard

3. Face to face, out on the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds still we take to the street
For the kill, with the skill to survive
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

4. You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little.... !!!!
What's New Pussycat - Tom Jones

5. They will vanish away like your daddy's best jeans
Denim Blue fading up to the sky
And though you want him to last forever
You know he never will
Oh Very Young - Cat Stevens

6. I don't bother chasing mice around
Stray Cat Strut - Strays Cats

7. There's still so much for me to do
And I can't stop loving you
Oh, can this be true?
Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone - Glass Tiger

8. She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
Year of the Cat - Al Stewart

9. Well I don't know where they come from
But they sure do come
I hope they're comin' for me
And I don't know how they do it
But they sure do it good
I hope they're doin' it for free
Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent

10. When I was a young boy
Said put away those young boy ways
Now that I'm gettin' older, so much older
I long for those young boy days
Hurts So Good - John Cougar "Mellencamp" (Heard this song on the radio picking up my Mom for lunch yesterday, and almost immediately realized I stole this one from a future game it would have fit very well into...)

11. Yeah, I was just thirteen, you might say I was a
Musical proverbial knee-high
When I heard a couple new-sounding tunes on the tubes
And they blasted me sky-high
Nashville Cats - Lovin Spoonful

12. 'Cause you were born into this evil world
Where man is killing man and no one knows just why
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again
When the Children Cry - White Lion (I tried really, REALLY hard not to use this song, but didn't have time to scour the brain for more cat songs....)

Image Bonus: Meow!

Elwood's image hit a nerve with me, so he gets the IBB. Other than observing the interplay, the worst part about not having a second cat is I can no longer, in good conscience, close the bedroom door to keep Ody out while I'm trying to sleep...

Well, so much for that two years of high school Spanish...... I had no idea.

It probably doesn't help that, when I was growing up, we had a mom & pop pizza place in town named Pantera's, and that's what I'll always associate that word with even after Beavis & Butthead introduced me to the band...

I'll offer future JJCP considerations....
