Lyrically Speaking - 1/28/25

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Jan 28, 2025 7:46 am

Those of you expecting a Tuesday Wordplay game today will be sorely disappointed... though you'll get used to that before long. I'm doing musical groups by number of members for Tuesdays this year, and we're starting off with duos. Let me repeat, DUOs, not to be confused with DUETs, which is two independent artists getting together to jam out a song or two. These are all music groups or established partnerships that have just two primary members. Please don't blow your Krox confusing the two...

Monday's game is still open if you missed it. Both that game and this one will close tomorrow morning...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone

2. Walking like a man
Hitting like a hammer
She's a juvenile scam
Never was a quitter
Tasty like a raindrop

3. But something's bugging me
Something ain't right
My best friend told me
What you did last night

4. She'll only come out at night
The lean and hungry type

5. You think you're mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables

6. I said, "This isn't Sha Na Na, come on Mom, I'm not Bowzer
Mom, please put back the bell-bottom Brady Bunch trousers"

7. Who knows why
Someday we all must die
We're all homeless boys and girls
And we are never heard
It's such a lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely world

8. I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
Want to dive into your ocean

9. Young and beautiful
But someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off
Who'll be turning you on?

10. Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you
Who do you think you are?
Ha-ha-ha, bless your soul
You really think you're in control

11. "How'd you like to be a star?"
"You're a girl that could go far"
"Specially dressed the way you are

12. The bartender asks me, say, "Son what'll it be"
I want a shot at that redhead yonder lookin' at me

Duos

Sound(s) of Silence -- Simon and Garfunkel

2. Walking like a man
Hitting like a hammer
She's a juvenile scam
Never was a quitter
Tasty like a raindrop

She's Got the Look -- Roxette

3. But something's bugging me
Something ain't right
My best friend told me
What you did last night

Wake me up before you go-go -- Wham!

4. She'll only come out at night
The lean and hungry type

Maneater -- Hall and Oates

5. You think you're mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables

You Cannot serve God and Mammon -- Jesus and the Moneychangers

6. I said, "This isn't Sha Na Na, come on Mom, I'm not Bowzer
Mom, please put back the bell-bottom Brady Bunch trousers"

Parents Just don't understand -- DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince

7. Who knows why
Someday we all must die
We're all homeless boys and girls
And we are never heard
It's such a lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely world

Love is the answer -- England Dan and John Ford Coley

8. I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
Want to dive into your ocean

Here Comes the Rain Again -- Eurythmics

9. Young and beautiful
But someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off
Who'll be turning you on?

Love will keep us together -- Captain and Tennille

10. Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you
Who do you think you are?
Ha-ha-ha, bless your soul
You really think you're in control

Crazy -- Gnarls Barkley

11. "How'd you like to be a star?"
"You're a girl that could go far"
"Specially dressed the way you are

My List -- The 'Steins

12. The bartender asks me, say, "Son what'll it be"
I want a shot at that redhead yonder lookin' at me

Boot Scooting Boogie -- Brooks and Dunn

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that was done by a DUO.

Blame it on the Rain -- Milli Vanilli

Image Bonus: It takes two to make a thing go right...

3. But something's bugging me
Something ain't right
My best friend told me
What you did last night
Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham! (Pretty much every music video they did featured about six hundred musicians. So how in the hell were they really just a duo?)

4. She'll only come out at night
The lean and hungry type
Maneater - Hall & Oates

5. You think you're mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys (Your first Annie Bonus opportunity! [pun intended with the Pet Shop Boys])

6. I said, "This isn't Sha Na Na, come on Mom, I'm not Bowzer
Mom, please put back the bell-bottom Brady Bunch trousers"
Parents Just Don't Understand - DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (Just slap yo' mama, Will...)

7. Who knows why

We're all homeless boys and girls

It's such a lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely world
Love Is The Answer - England Dan & John Ford Coley

9. Young and beautiful

Who'll be turning you on?
Love Will Keep Up Together - Captain and Tennille (The #1 song the second week of July 1975, like that week was important or something)....

10. Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you
Who do you think you are?
Ha-ha-ha, bless your soul
You really think you're in control
Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

11. "How'd you like to be a star?"
"You're a girl that could go far"
"Specially dressed the way you are
Lady Godiva - Peter and Gordon

Boot Scootin' Boogie - Brooks and Dunn

This was a really hard one for me to decide on... but I ultimately gave the nod to Weasel, with the kicker being that he had to modify it to get a shoutout to LSWE. So he gets his first of likely a handful of IBB's for the year...

JJC Points:

Krox gets 3 JJC points for the definition of taking two to tango, and because I never knew TMBG was a duo...

melly gets 2 JJC points for what looks like a really weird Bert and Ernie (people are gonna talk about them)...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for jerkweed (and I have to laugh at the quotes where the apostrophe should be. God, how many times I've made that typo...)

Panic gets a JJC point for being really excited about WHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jarnon gets a JJC point for competing necklines...

elwood gets 3 JJC points for casting couch, and for a new take on the term "personal catcher"...

BiT gets 2 JJC points, one for each head...

Beebs gets 3 JJC points for our first Ed Gein mention of the year...

frank gets 2 JJC points for the duo I'd have wagered he'd use...

Search gets a JJC point for getting the image right (I'd rather have to figure it out myself than have people not play the IB at all!)

Bob gets 2 JJC points for the original Siamese twins (Just found out recently that's no longer a PC term, which makes just a little more of my soul die)....

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for more bad costumes (nothing can touch this one for best Image Bonus costume ever)...

mrk gets 3 JJC points for Cher being absolutely and utterly bored at that demonstration...

Krox 15+3
melly 22+2
Weasel 22+3+5
Panic 25+1
