Lyrically Speaking - 1/27/25
Posted: Mon Jan 27, 2025 7:28 am
Welcome to the 2025 Lyrically Speaking Winter Alleged Extravaganza! One of the new themes from last year that will carry over to this year is Sesame Street Mondays, where each game will be sponsored by a random letter of the alphabet. For the first game of '25, that letter wound up being M. The odd numbered songs in this game all have titles that begin with the letter M, and the even numbered songs are all by artists beginning with the letter M (last name for solo artists). I hope you have a mmmmmmmmmahvelous time mulling over this mess...
As I've done for a while, this game (and only this game) will be open an extra day... meaning it will close sometime after 7 AM CST on Wednesday morning.
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...
1. Cause it takes me so long just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there
2. And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night
3. "Come on home, girl" Mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home"
4. Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw and not much to say
5. I remember standing on the corner at midnight
Trying to get my courage up
There was this long lovely dancer in a little club downtown
I loved to watch her do her stuff
6. I tried my best to feed her appetite
Keep her coming every night
So hard to keep her satisfied, oh
7. Want some whiskey in your water?
Sugar in your tea?
8. When I was young, I thought of growing old
Of what my life would mean to me
Would I have followed down my chosen road
Or only wished what I could be?
9. Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind
10. She's into superstitions
Black cats and voodoo dolls
I feel a premonition
That girl's gonna make me fall
11. I'll take you on a trip beside the ocean
And drop the top at Chesapeake Bay
12. Well, she's got a little bit of something, God, it's better than nothing
And in her color portrait world, she believes that she's got it all
Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song whose title or artist begins with the letter M (5 points if BOTH begin with the letter M).
Image Bonus: M is for...
