I just finished my first viewing of Disclaimer, and I'm watching it a second time. This is one of the rare series (only seven total episodes) that works even better the second time around. Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline star. Blanchett is an award-winning journalist who met Kline's college-aged son while on a vacation in Italy 20 years earlier. Kline's son drowned while trying to rescue Blanchett's then-five-year-old, who had drifted out to sea in an inflatable dinghy. After the death, Kline's wife discovered some spicy photos of the younger version of Blanchett their son took (played by a different actress), which indicated there was more to the relation than just a Good Samaritan dying tragically. Kline sets about to reveal the truth about what happened and expose Blanchett's character.
There are some very explicit scenes in this series, and Vandal will be happy to note that a self-published novel figures prominently in the story as well. Blanchett could win an Emmy next year for her role. Also, Sacha Baran Cohen plays Blanchett's husband, and he plays the part completely straight. It's hard to picture this is the same guy that played Borat.
