Ethel had been the last surviving member of that generation of the Kennedy family (and I know she was actually an in-law).

Mrs. Kennedy was a widow for 56 years. I don’t know of anyone comparable. (The Queen Mum was a widow for 50 years.)

You're probably right about that. I can think of a few famous people who were widowed for at least 40 years--Queen Victoria, Betty White, Bob Barker--but I'm nowhere near a 50.

Mrs. Kennedy’s funeral is starting now on C-Span. I recognize Presidents Biden, Clinton and Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and John Kerry taking their seats.
