All right experts, which I'm not. With the vagaries of football player injuries, transferring, etc, and without established records and personae, how does that work well, for players and promoters?

Eg, Ewers and Dr Pepper. Dontcha know their marketing team is pissed.

Just curious.

Haven't read the linked article, but wanted to mention that non-football players are the ones who have benefitted the most early on, in my opinion. Like volleyball players with large social media followings, and other smaller sports like that. Early on, a kid with a dog named Blue was endorsing Blue dog food, and got like $30,000 a year, which is not a lot to the advertiser, but can be life-changing for a college athlete. I think he was a football player, so that doesn't fit my opening statement, but it was a good story.

As before NIL, football has the most money flowing through it, and gets the most attention, but I had students in my class not many years ago where four of them were sharing one track scholarship. They did not have enough money for laundry, and were not allowed to work due to training time requirements.

I have hope that once the dust settles, and we figure out fair rules, this system will benefit amateur athletes so they can finish their degrees. And yes, a few will make a lot more than the rest, but that's the American way.

Based on that article and y'all's examples it seems that players will be somewhat protected with agents, etc. And maximizing local business exposure, humor, yada.

The vast amount of NIL money really is tied to local advertisements and promotional items, from what I have seen. Most of the national deals are football and basketball (M & W) players, as well as an exception like Libby Dunne (gymnast) who has deals based on her social popularity outside of sports. (Cabinets twins were another example.) Nebraska has a volleyball player who has national campaigns with Adidas and Dick’s Sporting, which occurred after the team set the world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event. It helps that she will be a 4x All-American, 3x academic A-A, and likely member of Olympic team in 2028.

One of the interesting aspects seems to be the social interactions of college athletes with pro athletes, which didn’t seem to be the case only a few years ago.

The big issue now is whether any type of revenue-sharing and payments will get court approval from the recent case involving the NCAA and former Power 5 conferences.
